Really tapered trousers, the in look from Beijing to Berlin to the Styleforum, have some drawbacks. Perhaps these can be solved by only buying the purest of socks and the smoothest fabrics for trousers. However, for those, who may not have the means or access to such fineries, are tapered trousers not a good option? Or are mine just tapered too much for the width of my calves (not particularly huge)?

My trousers are pretty tapered and I don't have this problem. Are your pants cuffed? I think cuffs make a difference. The added weight keeps the pants hanging straight down better.

Sounds like they're too tapered. OTC socks won't make a difference since it's the fabrics rubbing against each other, just like with the sleeves in an unlined tweed jacket. Maybe you're better off not wearing socks at all. At least that's my experience.
