I know this has been posted before but has anybody recently found any decent tailors in hoi an or hanoi. Have read the other threads and the general consensus is no. Planning to spend a week there so any good advice for tailors would be helpful

Don't waste your time or money. Enjoy the food and the beach.

I've had suits made in Thailand and Vietnam and they don't hold a candle to HK.

If you must, there's a tailor in Ho Chi Minh City - Cao Minh. You could have some passable shirts made there.

I spent a month in Vietnam before bschool. I took a bolt of white polyester with me from CA and had them make me a suit a la Saturday Night Fever. It's my go-to 70's outfit. Outside of that, I would not recommend having a suit made.

Been there, done that - don't bother. The only satisfactory thing I've had made in Vietnam is a pair of linen pajamas. Generally speaking, Vietnamese tailors (I use the term loosely) have very poor knowledge concerning the proper construction of tailored clothing. Also, the selection of fabrics is invariably terrible. I visited Cao Minh on my last trip to HCMC and was not sufficiently impressed to waste my money on Vietnamese tailoring yet again. Stick to Hong Kong for tailored goods.

There's a member (moderator?) on here called m@t who lives out there and usually dispenses good advice on this topic; try searching for him...

Back in 06, I gave in to the cajoling of one of the tailors in Hoi An and got a cheap suit - for $50.

It turned out to be the most expensive suit I ever bought, on a per use basis, since I threw it out after trying it on.

Don't make the same mistake - it's OK (I guess) for female clothing or if you ever wanted to make a novelty outfit (say the Joker from Batman).
