Totally. SAB is something that I hope to get when I grow older. I've been considering an umbrella/briefcase from them for years but keep stopping and saying to myself that it is something to get when I'm confidently successful and at one with the establishment rather than an impulse luxury buy...I hope they don't go under.

buy now.

You don't say?
Who'd think people aren't spending $1000 on overpriced umbrellas ??
I mean, what a VALUE !!

I paid $40 for this on sale this summer. With all the saved money, I'll buy 13 new ones if it even so much as splinters.

Why did you spend so much? I got my last one on the streets of Manhattan for $5 in a rain storm. But you know what will happen? Nobody will steal it and I will never leave it anywhere. I'll probably be stuck with this sucker for the next few years. As soon as I buy a SAB umbrella I'll leave it in a cab....

To all interested parties I can confirm that Swaine Adeney Brigg has been restructured and refinanced and is now in a position to pursue expansion and growth. The business continues to trade in St James and with the best retail partners in the world and the manufacture of our beautiful products by our craftsmen and women in our uk factories. We are grateful for your continued support.

Oh dear - why do I get such a sinking feeling when I hear "expansion and growth"?

Let's hope, Swaine Adeney Brigg has not fallen into the clutches of one of those international
luxury-goods conglomerates like LVMH or PPR.

If the shop was always empty and it went into administration it's hardly worth lamenting if they are subsumed by an international umbrella company, this is a fact of the sort of economic policy almost everyone seems to cheer on. If only a few people are willing to buy £3000 bags the financing of a luxury goods operation has to come from somewhere. It's the result of old-world craftsmanship and trade colliding with modern capitalist manufacturing and trade; from the point of view of sordid economics SAB and their like are an anachronism.

This is what we do: from now on, everything is made in China. We produce a line of ballistic nylon tote bags along with one or two lines of leather goods. We open in every mall in America and advertise heavily using reality TV stars for endorsement. Snooki carrying a tote bag, The Situation carrying one of those double-strapped thingies you used to make. Bam! It's gold, I tell ya!

lawlhaha good one!

I guess the changes are OK if everything is still made the same way by the same people. I love my hickory umbrella, which I bought at the London store.

Why are you always so negative? :eh:

They make absolutely beautiful products and have a great heritage. If you haven't noticed, people around here tend to have a great eye for details.. such as the umbrella they use. Not everyone can accept using shoddy MIC goods like yourself.
