Simple.. Now I need to figure out sizing.

Also, where can one find more Alden suede loafers in Copley last?

1. https://www.brickmortarseattle.com/loafers/snuff-suede-penny-loafer

2. https://www.theshoemart.com/alden-mens-9697f-penny-loafer-flex-welt-dark-brown-suede/

Alden Plaza last also looks attractive. I like the side profile where the toe drop off is a shorter distance to the welt.

Is it me or is the Copley narrower in the toe box than Van last? As popular is the latter last I just think it is too rounded and reminds me of slippers worn up in the cabin on winter holiday.

Has Alden made suede loafers on the Hampton, Grant, and even Aberdeen lasts? Do those lasts make sense for a loafer shoe?

I also like the Bauodoin & Lange Sagan model but I keep going between a heftier welt and sole versus the thinner design.

Trying to decide between these two Meermin for my first pair of loafer.
Also any sizing advice?

That’s the ones I was on about earlier. Great looking shoe and IIRC I think I got mine for around $200. Some people on SF are a bit snooty about Meermin. Mine haven’t been subjected to heavy wear so I can’t speak to their longevity but they seem to be robust enough to last. Look great and versatile too.

I’m a US 9 on a Brannock device but my starting point for US Shoes is 8.5. I have Meermins in Chelseas, PTBs and those loafers - I think they’re all on the Hiro last - and they’re all 7.5. So my suggestion would be one full size lower than your US size. Good luck.

Also a 9US in most brands. Bought the Alicante suede last summer. Went 7.5 and they fit perfect. Very happy w them so far.

You might check out Myrqvist, which is a relatively new brand. The shoes are goodyear welted and made in Portugal (and should have similar quality as Carlos Santos). I just received mine, and my first impression is great. Good construction, leather and fit.

@batone and gettoasty, have you tried Aldens in narrow sizes? They make them all the way down to AAA. I usually wear a D, but the Alden lhs in C is perfect for me. Sator used to suggest that people who wanted a sleeker RMW boot go up a size and down a width or two. You might try that.

GT, I like those tassel-less CnJs. Don't like the extra heel stitching on the copley-lasted Aldens though. The downtown SF shop used to carry plaza lasted pennies and would be worth a call.

It’s all about your budget. What are we talking here?
I have Meermins in polo suede which is a shade or two more ‘ginger’ than snuff suede. They have a narrower apron than usually round toed pennies but I like ‘em. Last is a little more formal looking than as an example those Alden’s in the pic up thread. They recently came out with unlined loafers but I haven’t tried them on.

I'd pay up to $600 I think.

What size do you typically wear and what size size did you go with for those Meermins?

If you can still find one around, the Allen Edmonds for Polo Ralph Lauren Shanley in either the bitter chocolate or snuff suede should fit the bill nicely. Words of warning - 1) As much as I love AE's 222 last, these things are brutally narrow, and 2) A number of the AE for PRL shoes (including the Shanley) have virtually no padding around the inside of the heelcup with the exception of a thin layer of suede right where the seem goes through the outside. That rigidity of the heel hits you in the "right" spot and boy will that rip you to shreds.

Edit: I wanted to note that Club Monaco has a similar shoe called the South Beach (available in a lighter shade, usually called saddle) but this shoe is built on the 2042 instead of the 222 and as a result fits quite a bit looser/wider.
