Probably best to measure your best fitting pair and compare to the size chart. That being said I found SM is less vanity sized in the waist than most and I sized up. I wear a 32 in other brands and a 33 in SM
Definitely measure but for what its worth I'm a 32 in BR and a 33 in SM. I'd say go a size up.
I do not see a sorting drop box on the custom shirt page, and custom shirt photo under shop directs me to RTW shirts. Last, is non-iron fabric coming by all means?
Add: I do not like the new custom shirt page in general, when a page has two scroll down pane it always messes up. And I want to view more fabric all at once.
Refine is not sort, it’s filter. By sorting I mean sort by price, newer olderI am not experiencing either issue. The custom shirt photo and text under the shop section both take me to the custom page as it should, at least on desktop. The sorting button is the "Refine" button and then it pops up with all the fabric, pattern, weight, and color options.
I do agree it could be better laid out without the two scroll panels and a better use of space in general. I prefer seeing fabric details at a quick glance without having to click each one. https://propercloth.com/fabrics is a good example of what I mean.
I think the side, 1 image preview could be ditched and the whole page could be fabrics. Add a couple short details on the fabric type and weight in the hover over preview, make the images slightly larger and just utilize a one page infinite scroll in addition to the refine options at the top.
Something like this but with the extra space you can utilize larger samples or maybe even do 4 per row so you could preview more at a glance.

Rick - Some unsolicited QC feedback for you. I own about 60 S&M shirts in varying textures and fabricweights, all RTW. At least 1/3 of them have had multiple buttons come off. I understand that its bound to happen occasionally but this seems like a pretty high rate, and I don't think I am overly hard on them. Just pointing it out. Keep up the good work.
I haven't had any buttons fall off yet, but almost all of my shirts have had at least one button where the thread has come loose. This would be one of the key areas that I would focus on improving.
