I also wanted to try on the Emerald Line items but there was only one item in stock. It felt very heavy to wear. Maybe it was the flannel. Can anyone chime in the Emerald label quality?
Do you mean suits and sport jackets?

The Emerald ones I have are a step up. Usually a more premium fabric. Plus full canvas construction. I notice the difference.

Sadly, Emerald no longer = full canvas. It started off as full canvas and unfinished sleeves. Now it just seems like they stick a few of the more uncommon fabrics in the line and that's about it.

My final MTO commission for the season in another Marling and Evans sample cloth, a hefty 500gms, 100% merino.

Standard cut with 4" lapel, normal unpadded shoulders, swelled edges.

Could be wrong, but I believe Emerald label CAN be full canvas, but is always a higher tier (relatively speaking) fabric plus a Milanese buttonhole, the latter facet being more miss than hit, in my opinion.

What was the reason you chose machine made stitching instead of pick stitching on the lapel? Not saying it looks bad, but rather odd choice together with the fancy milanese button hole. It looks neither Italian nor American in my eyes. Not bad, just different.

No other reason other than I like how they look, and it's different as you say. Much like using heavy English tweeds on a Neapolitan style jacket, it looks neither English, American or Italian.

For info, Spiers pick stitching is also machine made.

Quick try on of the Ulster. How does the fit look? Feel like the waist is too small but the lower half is too wide.

I had the same opinion when I tried the ulster a while back. The waist felt too narrow and the skirt felt too wide. I ended up returning it, but clearly some others like the shape.

Hi all, recently got into S&M. I have 3 contemporary high twist/hopsack trousers in 36. I had to let out the thighs and leg opening for my bigger thigh/calves. I went for no break, 5cm(2") cuffs which kisses the top of my shoes.
However, they tend to flap when I walk. Is it due to the light weight of the cloth or my leg opening? I Measured it to be 22cm.
I am approx 175cm (~5'9) and 83kg (~183lbs) if that helps.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
