Checked on the popovers... sizing seems to be at least a size larger than the equivalent button down. Is there an inherent difference in fit with the popover pattern? was going to go same size but might size down.

Popover has to be more generously sized so that you can take it off/put it on

I've never owned the S&M ones, but having owned many other popovers, a little extra fabric isn't bad, since the fabric doesn't give/stretch much when pulling it on (like a polo or t shirt).

FWIW, I ordered both.

Unless they had the fabric left over from the batch when they ran the jacket then I’d say no, even if it’s the same fabric code the dying process will produce variations in colour from batch to batch.

I'm very confused on their sportshirt/popover sizing. If I am a 16/33 at Brooks Brothers in their slim fit (Milano) what is the equivalent or closest at Spier Mackey? I am thinking 15.5 or maybe even 15.

I also wear 16/33 in Milano, and take 16/33 contemporary for SM for a similar fit. Unfortunately, the new sport shirts are too long on the sleeve at my sizing.

I have one of the older popovers and went with my standard size. It seems like they were made a little looser to fit over your head but works with the style. I am really tempted to buy both even though I don't need more blue shirts...

Yes, I was looking at the sleeve lengths and 35" is way too much. Maybe for a summer shirt can roll up sleeves but not ideal.

These are excellent. Fabric is soft, and easy to iron. You won't find better quality shirts at this price anywhere else.

One thing you could try is going up a fit and down a size (or two on both). E.g. I wear 15.5/33 Slim in dress shirts, but in the casual shirts 15.5 has way way too long of sleeves, so I went with a 15 Contemporary, which basically fits like a 15.5 Slim (shoulders are a bit off though) but has shorter sleeves.

Thanks for the tip. I run into the same issue as you. A shoulder under 18.5 doesn't look right on me even though the shirt is big enough otherwise.

I've only got limited experience when it comes to various dress shirt fabrics, but I've had mixed results with fine twill. In lighter solid colors, it wrinkled very quickly - between leaving my place and getting to work it looked like it had been worn all day. I have a few poplin and royal twill shirts that have worked out better for me.
