Anyone else having problems with sock sizing
For years I have been a UK10 shoe size and have taken the corresponding sock size 10-12.5 (L) but though I would try a merino wool sock size 7.5 - 9.5 (M) from a quality manufacturer and still find that I can feel excess material in my shoe which just feels uncomfortable
So presume going down to a Small size would be too great

I wear a UK 10 (in few cases 9 1/2) size for shoes as well and usually 12, 11 1/2, Large for socks. Sometimes there's a little excess material, but it does not bother me. You have also to consider that all socks will shrink with washing to some extent, thus making some excess length pretty useful.

I’m a UK 10 and also find myself between sizes. I tend to buy medium size as I don’t like the excess material in a large. I find that cotton socks quite often shrink unwearably however. Wool socks are less prone to shrinking and more amenable to being stretched by hand when still damp.
