Perhaps. I don't think it's all that black and white though. You are suggesting that because I'm bored with Chucks that I'm somehow Trad? I'd never be mistaken for that. I just don't see them as stylish anymore. Utilitarian, pedstrian and unremarkable perhaps in that they are worn by just about anyone. I'm sure that's fine. I'm also sure its not for me.

I'm at this moment wearing jeans and a dark brown suede boot. Much more interesting looking to me than Chucks.

When I was wearing chucks I had a bi level haircut half of which was dyed blond. Stupid looking then, stupid looking now. I just associate the Chucks with that. My own bias certainly.

Chucks look good only on a certain type of person (i.e. skinny guys with slim jeans), which I happen to not fit into. I agree that the blanket statement of chucks looking bad is ridiculous, but they certainly aren't good for everyone.

I always like Chucks in theory, but when I have tried them on, they look dumb to me. I appreciate them, but they are for other people, I guess.

I should mention that when I saw Sin City I immediately reconsidered this position and thought about picking up some red hightops. But then, someone yelled something that sounded like "Stop!"

That said, I think they're best kept to black or white, the former cannot look too new, and the latter cannot look too old.

I never was able to pull them off either. And wearing Vans make me feel I'm bakc in 1988 in high-school. So I guess these two "timeless" streetwear footwear are not for me.

My dad (51) wears these regularly. He has them in white and black, they look ok with his style, I guess.

I think that anyone with my foot size or bigger (or maybe even smaller, I am just using mine as a benchmark) should not wear them. I am normally a 12 and I guess that makes me an 11 or something in chucks. I tried them on and they looked like clown shoes. Oh well.

I wear regular chucks sometimes, and I love my brown chucks. I think they are the only shoes that look good with slim fit jeans besides Pumas of course.

Could be a better fit for those who wear non-slim jeans, or those with wider feet, provided they don't fall under the "square-toe" category... (never seen any in person)

For the record, can someone list, in order the narrowness, chucks, vans, and mexico 66?

I saw the movie when it came out but just read the comic. In fact, Dwight (Clive Owen in the movie) wears chucks in the comic. There is one picture where you clearly see the star on his foot. I think this is quite striking since the comic is yet more stylized than the movie, and Frank Miller def thought about everything he put into these drawings - so he obviously wanted to characterize Dwight by his choice of shoes. At first I also thought it strange, but after getting used to it I thought it looked cool.
