I was recently fitted by Hillary Freeman as a size 8E in Edward Green. What is shocking is that I normally buy a US 9.5 or 10D.

I know that Edward Green recommends a tight fit, and while tight, the shoe did fit. It pinched the ball of my foot above the right big toe joint. I believe her when she says the leather will stretch with wear.

I have 4 pairs of Edward Green, all from RLPL and all in size 9D or 9.5D. I am satisfied with their fit, although I guess the 8E would be better. Hillary said that they can re-last my shoes on the correct size when the time comes to have them rebuilt.

Has anyone else had such a vast sizing difference when fitted by EG? Does anyone recommend against having my shoes relasted 1 to 1.5 sizes down and a width up by the factory? Will they look goofy?

Thanks!!!

I don't think the difference is as dramatic as you believe. If you bought your prior pairs from RL, you're probably going by the U.S. sizing. Depending on the last, a 9D is going to translate to an 8.5E or 8E in EG's U.K. sizing. Generally RLPL shoes will have both sizes printed on the inside, with the U.S. size listed first.
As for re-lasting, why not see how the fit is when the time comes for recrafting? If you're still happy with the fit, don't screw with it. If the shoes no longer feel like they fit correctly, then worry about it.
