I've read through this thread and I'm still confused on sizing. I usually wear a 9 UK (Alfred Sargent) or 10D US (Alden Barrie last, AE 5 last, Alden for BB, AS for BB). I think I'm actually more like a 9.5 wide in US sizes, but a 9.5D Alden Barrie last was too narrow.

So what would I be in Santoni? I see a bunch of very nice looking shoes on eBay for great prices (<$300 for FAM) but I don't know what size I would be?

I'm guessing maximum 9 in a Santoni, possibly even an 8.5.

I'm a UK10 in G&G, UK9.5 in C&J 348 last, and a snug 9 in Santoni. Their sizes tend to be large. If you don't mind a snug fit, go 8.5.

TheCity, those appear to be very low-end for Santoni. Look through this thread and you will see plenty of beautifully-made Santoni shoes, but those ones you linked to are not in the same league. Rubber soles for starters - nothing wrong with that, but if you're looking for wet-weather shoes, you should IMHO save your money for a shoe with a Goodyear-welted Dainite sole. Great examples of those from Loake (1880 range), Crockett & Jones and others.

Discounted examples from the Santoni "fatto a mano" range can often be found online for under $500. Try farfetch.com and shopthefinest.com - I've bought Santonis from both these online stores and been very happy. Be aware that Santoni sizing runs large. You need to size down at least 1 full size from your US shoe size. If in doubt, err on the side of a slightly smaller size in Santoni.

Best of luck.

Thecity,

I'd highly recommend getting a feel for the Santoni's at Nordstrom before you buy any. They're just not all that great for the pricepoint. Also, if you are to buy the lower end Santoni's, look for a model that retails at 695.00 and up. It's not always the case, but Santoni seems to use better leather in the more expensive classic lines. There are much better options in other brands at this pricepoint. For this style of shoe, I'd look pretty hard at Sutor Mantelassi at shopthefinest, or the FAM lines of Santoni. DSW has some as well, but their offerings must be the rejects from the past 10 years or so. Good luck!

These are a little more $$ but are infinitely better quality. Sutor uses some GORGEOUS leather.
