I thought the same. The problem is that I hardly own or wear any slim pants... I tried them with my 501 33s, and while it works, I get a serious cowboy vibe going.

Got my Ralph Lauren boots today. Still undecided on them and would like opinions. I really like the height boost they give me and I'm not sure I can do better for $275. I've given up on finding perfection in a black lace-up.
