The Secret History is a great book, far better than The Goldfinch.

WalMart made the stupid decision to price match Amazon listings effective this last weekend, and there's already people embarking on gaming the system that was inevitable with this announcement:

"This new Wal-Mart policy sure bit them hard yesterday. A third party seller listed tons of XBox Ones for under a hundred dollars. People were flocking to Walmart for the price matches. A friend told me his cousin was there getting one, I said no way was Wal-mart going to price match a third party. Guess I was wrong, they got one. I guess all the Wal-marts in town sold out of all xbox ones last night as the seller kept relisting them by the hundreds. Of course it was a just launched seller, certainly just a scammer. Amazon finally caught on and deleted all their listings, but I can't imagine how many units Wal-mart gave away for $60-$100."

Yeah, I gave up on The Goldfinch at some point around halfway though. Dunno whether I'm gonna go back to it.

It's worth it only if you want a common point of conversation with NYTimes book review types since apparently everyone read it. It's sad to say that her best book is her first book but I really liked The Secret History. Also I like her suits.

Difference between Valstar and 'Valstarino by Valstar'? The latter sounds like a diffusion line, but the products appear to be identical.

Valstarino used to be a specific model (the A1). They recently turned it into a sub-brand to reinforce the product and the IP (because "valstarino" was often used as a generic word like kleenex to describe that style, including sometimes by other brands!), particularly in Japan. So Valstarino is one of the Valstar products - usually, the ones in the Valstarino branded line are more standardized (for retailers) and often unlined. Under the Valstar brand, Valstar can make pretty much any combination of materials, lining, ribbing, buttons, etc.... which often ends up being more costly.

Thanks for the explanation. BTW, the Valstar A1 I tried on at the trunk show was freakin' awesome. Very cool to see your wares in person.

I finished the Goldfinch, if you didn't like it after halfway, probably shouldn't finish it. It was pretty mediocre overall.

It was whichever one you brought in a 48...maybe the grey suede one? I was a few scotches into the evening at the time.

Did not realize you were in our nation's capital.

When's the DC SF meet-up? Will there be scotch?

Well for now and the next little while I'm in NYC. I'll be back in DC at the end of January. Looking forward to more DC meet ups. The previous ones have been fun, but could use moar SWD representation.
