Hello everybody,

I am looking for a tan oxford for my ligh blue and beige summer suits. The only light brown oxford is the Crockett & Jones "Westgate 2" o the 379 last:

-> How does the 379 last compare to the 360 last with an almond-toe or the 348 and 373 lasts with soft square toes that I usually wear?

Also the handgrade double-monk "Montepellier 2" in antique tan calf could be an option, as I like the very good fitting 373 last for an Italien-inspired summer outfit:

Otherwise Carmina offers an adelaide oxford 80327 in tan calf on the "Simpson" last that looks very good as alternative:

Or the TLB Mallorca Artista oxford 207 as alternative on the Picasso-last:

What is your opinion?

Is anyone of your wearing one of these shoes?

Best regards

Pascal
Are you married to the idea of it being an oxford? Due to the slightly less formal nature of the intended suits (light blue and beige) I imagine a derby would match the level of formality quite well. If you're open to suggestions on that it also opens up quite a few options in the lighter colors.

Can anyone compare the 325 (Coniston boot) to the Trickers Stow? I'm wondering if the same size in each will work since I'm unable to visit a C&J shop and shipping/returning is a hassle. Hoping to order the right size from the start. My concern is that I had a pair of C&J Boston loafers in a half-size above what I normally wear and they were still much too tight to even fit into. I'm hoping the Coniston in my regular size will fit and that I won't need a full-size up from what is my normal size in all the other Northampton boots I have... Loake, Sargent, Grenson, Trickers, etc.

I wear both lasts (325 and 4497s) and both in the same size.

- 4497s has a lower instep
With very thick socks (think Norway socks) I get a pain from the pressure on my feet at the area where the eyelets begin (at the bottom). I'm trouble free there with the 325.
Also visually I get a V-shape at the facings when laced, on the 325 it's parallel.

- 4497s is a bit more roomy otherwise
It's wider at the ball / girth and it wears longer, I get a bit more heel slip and I think it's due to the rounded toe-box that it feels like it has more room in front of the toes, especially the outer toes.
Effectively - and only with the exception of the above mentioned fat Norway socks due to the lower instep - the more generous room in the 4497s makes my Tricker's boot more a choice for the winter. Normal, already thick winter socks I can wear with both lasts, but the 325 is more compatible with less thicker autumn and regular socks.

That's is what I can state for me. I would think that if you have a bit of leeway towards a little bit a tighter fit in width and length, the 325 could work for you in the same size.

I can confirm these remarks.

I wear the same size in all my Loake, Tricker's and C&J, including the Capital, 325 and 4497 lasts. The 4497 is most spacious in terms of width so for me also a winter-only boot with thicker socks.

The best fitting is the 325 and the least the Loake capital as the front seems to turn inwards a bit sharper, pinching the pinky toe on my larger foot. I have no such issues on Tricker's or C&J, however I consider all 3 good fits (others have been sold on much earlier). The 325 like the 4497 offers also some extra room all-around, but not enough to size down and still somewhat works with a thin sock.

Hello TheLawBeard,

two lighter brown derbies, a plain derby in cognac crust calf with a mahagony patina from Lloyd 1888, and a light hazelnut full-brogue derby from Heinrich-Dinkelacker "Milano" I enjoy wearing already. Both have a slimmer last, but still the typical double-leather J.Rendenbach soles.

Cognac plain derby "Milano" that I own:

Hazelnut full-brogue derby "Milano" that I love to wear as well (picture of the same "Luzern"):

On Sale are other examples in cognac as light orange brown:

A variant of the soft budapester "Zürich" as full-brogue derby in cognac, that looks less boulbous than it is in real:

The English "Luzern" captoe oxford in cognac, which has classic round toe and is rather formal:

The double-monk would then probably also good fitting. The full-brogue oxfords I would consider to be as formal as a plain derby.

What shoes could you recommend?

Best regards

Pascal

If you’re in the US returning to C&J online store is pretty easy (just print the label and take it to UPS) and costs only $20.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
