Thanks, it’s the Chestnut Calf. They have a beautiful red tone to them, I think the overcast light and frost on the grass help show off the colour really well…
Indoor they look a beautiful tone too :- ;) The Skye IV

Lovely clicking and organising of pieces here. The hatch shell is giving a lovely matt look. I would have expected it to be more shiny though. But this could be because the lighting or camera filter.
I agree that the matt look is pleasing but suspect they will polish them to a shine once made. I’ll post pictures when they arrive.

Greetings all,

I need a new pair of black cap toe oxfords, and therefore face the perennial dilemma between Lonsdale (363) and Audley (337). I'm not a chisel toe fan so was naturally drawn to the Lonsdale, and waited months for each to come up in a sale or a good condition pair on eBay....and both came at once, in my usual size of 8.5E, and so i now have both: subs Lonsdale from C&J, and a lightly worn Audley from eBay.
Annoyingly, i find the Lonsdale very tight and particularly difficult to put on (the tongue really wants to disappear down under the vamp)...and I'm worried after 10 hours in the office they'll be unbearable. The left one also looks quite skewiff from the rear (see photo) - perhaps the reason they're subs? And possibly why they feel uncomfortable? Meanwhile the Audleys are extremely comfortable, my foot slides in gracefully.
So...the q: do people find the 337 is a more 'forgiving' fit than the 363? I have a relatively high instep, which never helps with oxfords.
Although i far prefer the look of the Lonsdale, at the moment the Audley is winning hands down with comfort, which I'm wondering whether others have noticed this...or is it just me? Or is it my subs?(!)
Thank you all, as always.

Not a cordovan fan, but that hatch grain looks great, I would ask for a light polishing, preserving that gorgeous look.

I want to buy a new pair of boots. For some reason I have this urge that I can't shake. A casual bad weather boot

I tried the Chepstow 4 in Navy rough-out which I didn't immediately fall in love with so I returned those. Maybe a bit too hastily. Another reason was the RO material was really stiff and I didn't how how much it would soften after break in. Does it soften like leather? And the sole. While it wasn't a light as I'd hoped, does the cleated sole offer any shock absorption?

I wanted the Radnor but it went out of stock fairly quickly so hopefully it would make a comeback at the next sale.

I was also considering RMW comfort Goodwood in the new colour but I won't say much more about that here, 🫣

Any recommendations?

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
