Visited the location at 92 Jermyn street. It was quite a pleasant experience and the service was amazing. Dealt with Cameron who is really a great fellow.

Tried on a number of boots. Turns out the 325 is amazing on foot for me. Almost bought a pair of DBSG Conistons. Ended up with something even more special that I’ll post about when they get their first wear.

Really wanted to like the Islay but for some reason the last just doesn’t look right on my foot. Quite the shame. I’ll have to give them a second chance at some point.

There is one unfortunate thing I noticed during the try-on process though- sizing was consistent from one pair to the next. There were *very* noticeable differences in sizing between same-size pairs of the same boot. I’ll admit I was a bit shocked. They got me sorted but I’ll say that some pairs felt almost a half size different from each other. And yes- I checked to make sure they were the same size and width. That’s something I’ll have to keep in mind for future purposes.

Overall- very pleased with the experience and can’t wait to start putting wears on my new acquisition. But not it’ll also be a while before I’m allowed to buy anything else. Going to have to behave myself unless a really enticing MTO comes along.

I've had similar experiences with my Tricker's. Got a pair of Bourton's in UK9 that fit fine (they recommend half a size down), a pair of UK10 Stow's that I had to sell due to being too small length-wise and a pair of UK10 Stow's in my current collection that I can only wear with thicker socks.

If you randomly take 5 of the same size, I wouldn't be surprised the variance is a full half size. Same goes for Red Wing by the way, so it's not a C&J thing.

Curious what you ended up with. The 325 last is one the best fitting in my collection too, so eager to know what else may be out there.

Those are decent prices! I never see C&J on sale in EU-countries, and imports outside of brand-direct webshops are annoying/pricey.

Lanark 3 in brown suede on Dainite, bought from the very nice people at Bodiley's.

Mate, its like making a triple pattie handmade cheese burger with lettuce, mayo, pickles and ketchup inside.

If you make 2 of them burgers, they'll both be triple pattie burgers that will taste the same and have the same ingredients and will look the same. Purpose served.

But really, as you'll know and appreciate, there are going to be minuute subtle differences in both the burgers. The lettuce leaf shape will be different in both burgers. The exact quantity of mayo n ketchup will be different, the patties in shape and quantity wont be the exact same and will sit differently when stacked inside the buns. The buns too will have different amounts of sesame seeds stuck on top, and so on.......

Consider these shoes the same way since they are handmade. No two pairs (of the same style and size) could ever be the exact same or identical.

And you'll have to excuse my dumbed-down homer simpson styled burger analogy 🍔

Do you guys usually pay full retail for your C&J's when new? Or always wait for discounts at retailers/outlets?

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
