Looks like a fantastic choice for the job! In the evening you can walk to the hotel bar in the same shoes I suppose.

Regarding the moisture I started to think there might be another cause for it which I have learned from my hiking hobby. Feet perspire a lot - really a lot - so the moisture might end up coming from inside the boot. You need to have good, thick socks, such as merino wool, which can absorb all that moisture, because no footwear breathes as much as feet perspire.

Well, just thinking maybe this might be the cause and not the welt.
Exactly the purpose of having them on my trip with relatively limited packing room for multiple shoes/boots. Socks won’t be the issue for me, I am as meticulous with socks as I am with my boots… maybe the issue I saw was exacerbated as I’d worn the Snowdon’s for 3 days in a row and they’d not fully dried out. Something I’d never dream of doing at home. But they did do a LOT of walking and standing in the snow on 2 of those 3 days and torrential rain on the first of the 3.

The idea of the felt insoles is interesting, as there is probably just room.

Interestingly, I wore my Zug Islay for the first time in anger today, amazing to be reminded how stiff the Zug is when not worn in.

Hello everyone,

today I continue breaking in my balmoral boots "Charleston". What boots do you wear to the office with chinos or a suit?

Balmoral boots, sleek chelsea and chukka boots come to my mind.

I am asking because mostly more casual shoes are shown like loavers, country derbies and heavy derby boots.

Best regards

With a suit you need an elegant, sleek style, with chinos you will wear preferably a more casual one.

An Oxford, a Balmoral or a sleek Derby boot are ideal for the first case, a roomier, rounder toe Derby boot (think of a classic Chukka) will pair well in the second one. Furthermore also the kind of leather will be more or less formal/casual: smooth leathers are more formal than grain and suede, calfskin is more formal than cordovan. Finally dark colours are usually considered more formal than light ones.

Thanks,

the problem is that also the color got a little bit lighter. Hence I need the dark grey polish to recolor the leather. With my old black shoes the decoloration was not an issue.

The shoes then run fairly large, as the UK 8 shoe trees fit in easily and do not fully fill-up the forefoot of the shoe.

Hopefully only my own folds and crease reappear when wearing the shoe.

Best regards

Pascxal

Keep in mind that C&J lasts usually fit large. I only have an Audley on the 337 last, but have tried several models in a store here in Berlin: I'm a UK10 (Gaziano & Girling, Edward Green, other brands), but with C&J I have to size down, similarly as for John Lobb.

Yes, they fit large. According to their fitting guide online the UK 8/EU 42 for a foot length of 25.9 cm shoild for. However, I soze down to UK 7.5 in Oxfords and UK 7 in boots, whixh then for well for the instep-to-heel length with less volume above the forefoot.

Breaking in my balmoral boots "Charleston" today, in UK 7 and after 4 times wearing them for a day already comfortable:

Very nice colour/texture combination.

By the way, fix the tongue on the right boot.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
