I know very little of other brands, but I agree with you that C&J are (mostly) very comfortable right out of the box.Why are crockett & jones boots so comfortable? In compare to Vibergs, or Trickers they have softer inner leather and they are very comfortable out of the box in my experience. Same or similar comfort I found only with Cheaneys. Is it only my opinion or they are really comfortable that most of other boots brands? What is your experience?
A personal and subjective experience this is. In terms of comfort, my rating (based on my shoes) would be:Why are crockett & jones boots so comfortable? I have Cavendish, Coniston and Pembroke all in 325, I find all comfortable. Aldershot in 375 is just a bit closer in the heel (as described by C&J). Almost feels tailor made.In large part I believe last design plays a role in how comfortable a shoe feels. My Pembroke's are probably also the most comfortable shoe I have, but still a chunky country shoe. Tricker's is also a favorite (4497 slightly more so than 2298), but I also like my Carlos Santos (Z401) dress shoes which are much tighter, but the last feels just right (no pressure on pinky toe).
Personally I prefer a low volume, wide in the forepart and slightly tight in the heel. C&J appears to have the best options for this (if someone can recommend a specific last other than 325, feel free to do so).
In terms of build quality I'd rate Tricker's and C&J the same. In general I like the casual aesthetics of Tricker's slightly more.
In your experience is the Aldershot exactly the same as Coniston in the toe area? I just got a pair of Shannon (picture above) which is in 375 and I feel that they are a bit tighter than Coniston in the forefoot. Well, I have only used them for few hours so far.I have Cavendish, Coniston and Pembroke all in 325, I find all comfortable. Aldershot in 375 is just a bit closer in the heel (as described by C&J). I don’t find 325, or 375 to be overly spacious in the toe. I think as the cork in the footbed sinks after the first few wears, you gain some room. So keep wearing them in!In your experience is the Aldershot exactly the same as Coniston in the toe area? In comparison I tried the Sandhurst, 375 as well, in store and I did not notice that it was tighter in forefoot. Strange.
I agree, the heel is much better!
