PSA: Hilarious Scam going on in the West Village

i loaned ghulkhan 2k and he disappeared .... he's in and around the west village. does that count as a scam?

I'm Asian and I had shopping bags - that was probably a lot to do with it. In fact, he even asked me what country I'm from. I said "America" and it threw him for a little bit of a loop.

I had sized him up before, like any good SFer and noticed that his shirt had a nova check collar and his sweater had the little RL pony on it. I replied "yes", thinking he may have wanted directions to the Prada store or something.

What passes or fails you as a good SFer won't be the ability to notice the 'nova check ..' , but how you assess such a man. Begin.

It's truly shocking to me how many non-Anglo-Americans think all Americans are white. Most of my students, no matter what country they're from, think "American" means "white." Seriously.

I often wonder what separates me from the targets.

My fave recent scam experience was on the J train, heading into Brooklyn.

Young African guy, big carry bags with LV purses sticking out.

We get to talking. He admits that they are all fakes that he sells for $50, but since he can tell I am a stylehound he says he can get the *real* LV bags for only $500.

When I got off the train, I neglected to get his name.

Dept. of Lost Opportunities, I guess.

Clearly. Why is there a second guess? For example, I often walk around in foreign countries with an SLR camera. The take could be quite good. Yet no one has tried.
