Just got a Seiko SKX007 and I'm really happy with it so far, it looks and feels like a much more expensive watch and keeps good time. I was originally going to buy a Laco B-uhr but reading the posts of a Seiko geek on a local forum got me hooked. I'll get a flieger type watch for my next one though.
The picture is from the lab so labcoat/nitril glove combo.

Can you hook it up with some details of this time piece? I'm diggin the dial. is this custom?

Naw, that is the Seiko "Spork," or SRP043K1. They are now discontinued, but you see 'em pop up from time to time. They generally get snatched up pretty quick. For the best selection of "cheap" Seikos, check out the following:

My $10 Seastar turned out to be a $10 donation to the thrift store. Jeweler said it would cost at least $200 to get it running and its just not worth it. Too bad as it is a really cool looking watch.

Where did you get that strap?

Does anyone have a good source for good quality budget straps? Would like to stay under $30 but would go up to $50 if it's a great strap...

I just bought a $15 black strap on eBay to test out before I purchase 2 brown ones and I won't be going with the same seller. Band is very stiff and feels almost like plastic (but smells like leather).

Thanks!

Stick to the matte finish medium sized tiles for the best quality gator leather. I have the dark brown 18mm strap, and it looks fantastic. Product came a little darker than pictured though.

I've had my eye on a diver all the sudden, but a sub is way out of my budget. If you had to chose between a seiko 5 or an orient diver all things being equal, whats the preference?

or

and the original.....

I would take the Orient over the Seiko 5. Also, i would try to pick up an Orient Ray if you want a sub-homage. Sadly, I don't think that you can get the 50% off deal on Orient anymore :(.

How about getting the Seiko SKX-007. It's about the same price as the seiko 5 and is much better looking. Eyeing one for daily usage. Pair it up with a leather or NATO strap. That is one to die for.

Thanks - thats too 'divery' for me. I like the two above, a little cleaner I suppose.

Any reason people like the orients over the seiko?

PS - i find most of the orients online for about 25-50% off
