Was always intrigued by both these and CWC watches as non-Rolex affordable milsubs. Price decrease is interesting too. Could be a good travel watch to places you'd rather not bring a more expensive piece, while still having a hefty tool watch on your wrist...

I think it’s hard to beat this one if your aim is Milsub vibes/homage:

Don't disagree with you at all. What's the case size on that Pelagos? I do prefer a date window, though. I also don't love the snowflake hand, which is just personal preference. There is a Black Bay (the Burgundy, I think) with the red bezel that has a regular lollipop seconds hand, but a snowflake hour hand. I think that looks a lot better than snowflakes for both the hour and seconds hands.

Price is another factor as well, of course. The Mk II is less than $1,000 although admittedly it uses a Miyota movement. I think the Mk II would be a great "beater" or travel watch if you still want something tool-ish but not super expensive.

I'm strongly considering pulling the trigger on the dive bezel version with a date window tomorrow when it becomes available. I do wish it had a little more color, like the blue "antimagnetic" dial text on the original version of the watch. I think it would look great with the bracelet or a NATO strap. I think there are a limited number available tomorrow that will come with both a bracelet and a rubber strap.

Make no mistake, though, the Pelagos is a great watch.

42 mm. I have also historically not been a fan of the snowflake hands, but I have to say they fit the tool watch/military vibe of the watch on this one. Can't go wrong with an MK II, though. Have always heard great things about their watches.

Something else to keep in mind is the Tactical Frog version of this watch. https://tacticalfrogwatch.com/

I bought one to use as a knockaround watch last summer and loved it so much that I got a second one. And, then loved both so much that I got both the blue and black FXD's. I still have the frogs for situations where I do not want to wear anything nice. Check out the tactical frog thread in the dive watches forum on WUS. Great watch for under $200.

I'm wearing my CWC today and will probably order one of the MKII Fulcrums tomorrow.

FWIW, I've owned at least one of just about every MKII made except the Fulcrum, and not for lack of trying. I missed out on them when they were originally offered and I've never seen one pop up on the secondary market. The ultra-rare Graywater is actually easier to come by than an original Fulcrum.

Like you, I'm a little disappointed that this one doesn't have the blue "ANTIMAGNETIC" on the dial and the matching antimagnetic movement, but I'm still interssted. I've also got no qualms about the Miyota movement - I've had those movements in a few watches, including a couple Helson skindivers that always kept excellent time. I think the most common complaint I've read about the Miyota is that it can be a little noisy but I've never really noticed that.

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
