Yes that is true but it is damn beautiful and solid gold too!

There are a lot of beautiful gold things. Don't do it.

Buy what you like and don't get lost in the minor details, that's what shoes are for.

I resisted although I still think it is a great looking watch, but too much moola.

It's massive, too. To me, even though it's gold, it is just so showy that it will always be assumed to be a nasty PVD quartz wristweight. Also, that line starts at about $450 for the steel time only ones. How much more does this one really look? I'm not getting it at all. Still, at least a steel one qualifies as a PMW ;)

It's still advertised at Ashford I see, but I'm glad you held back. For perspective, five things that are cheaper and more classy than buying a rose gold Davidoff for $3700:

1. Not buying a rose gold Davidoff for $3700

2. Buying a vintage Zenith chronograph for $2700

3. Buying a more modern nearly-new Zenith Port Royal for $3500

4. Buying a stunning vintage IWC Calibre 89 dress watch for $3600

5. Buying a modern chonograph from a watchmaker like Longines for $2850

N.B. Although they're all used, all of the above are solid rose gold, on a real croc or gator strap, and a modern but not ostentatious size - all 38mm bar the IWC at 36mm. 2 and 4 are manual, 3 and 5 automatic. Prices are current offers on Chrono24; the list is far from exhaustive!

Anyway, this is the PMW thread, so:

If you do like a larger, chunkier piece of gold, then it's not a chrono but:

42mm pink gold gator strap auto from Oris, $1000. Ya feel me?

Thanks Mimo. The Zenith Port Royal is excellent, I feel you loud and clear, all great choices. I did a lot of damage in the last 2 months and I'm not really in the market for another watch. Problem is I get emails from Ashford and Jonas and got "discount drunk" From now on they're going in the spam folder! Thanks all for your good advice.

3 excellent choices, too!

I know people are divided on the topic of "homage" so let's not bring it up again. But still, that Seiko Quartz looks so much like a Cartier Tank Solo, I wonder if it would be worth it to buy the latter.

Especially since this watch, with it's inherently dressy appeal, might go out and see the sun what, about 10 times a year, max (in my case, actually)?
