I basically want to just say "*******" and stop using this service. These people are idiots. I have a completely verified account and a bank account with plenty of cash in it, but today they decided that there was something suspicious going on (I was paying for a couple of ebay purchases) and they now will not let me do an instant transfer. Now everyone I buy anything from has to wait a week for an e-check to clear. I call them, and whoever their ESL tech support person is basically says they have no control over their own system and can't lift the restriction even if they wanted to.

Basically, **** paypal.

I agree. Luckily I've never had any major problems, but I've heard of horror stories where you're basically left powerless.

I find that having to call them LONG DISTANCE is beyond ridiculous... what kind of an international online company that is completely propped up by its customers does not have a toll free customer service line that you can call for help?

So you've had no problems with PayPal, but you want to fit in here, so **** 'em anyway. Hey kid, wanna a cigarette?

Been said many times, in many ways. The minute Google opens up its own auction site, I'm gonna close my account with eBay/Paypal and start a new one with Google. This is what a monopoly feels like. Go get your vaseline and get ready.

Its not a monopoly because they (pp/fleabay) aren't restricting anyone from coming to market. Sadly, there just isn't another alternative.

I can't wait. I want to see Ebay and Paypal crash and burn hard. Their greed, dishonesty and horrible customer service needs to pay the piper. I recently removed all my Paypal bank account information and credit card.

That's Econ 101 definition for a monopoly.

It's still a monopoly.. their size and influence restricts entry into the market.

Heh, this happened to me a couple of weeks ago when I wanted to by shoes from VCH. My instant transfer was blocked for whatever reason, but my credit card was still available as a method of payment. What's weird is that the following week I could send instant transfers from my bank account again.

Really? How? They're the only option in the market that's worthwhile. How does that make them restrictive?

I got an email the other day about my account needing updating, but I don't want to do anything about it because it might be a scam.

To even attempt to obtain any market share you would need to sink millions of dollars into an auction site and hype the **** out of it so that it would have SOME prayer of competing with ebay. If you did, ebay / paypal would take steps to undercut you and force you out, which, given its size, it would likely be able to do, unless you like spending a whole bunch of money to start up a project that will operate at a loss for a significant period of time.
