@comrade

Well I’m only almost 40 years old ?‍♂️ Southwick isn’t exactly a step up either
I do not remember the Southwick quality. It was a mainstream
Ivy manufacturer. In those days PS was about as trad as Brook
and Press, maybe a touch more adventurous. I owned one of
their first Samuelsohn blue blazers in the 70s.It was an elegant
quality garment, more fitted than the usual trad jacket, but with
true natural shoulders. Based on their website, there seem to
be no tweed sportcoats anymore.Just the muted Italian dreck
than can be purchased at multiple price points. e.g.

My impression with Paul Stuart is really after 2010, by then it’s a lot more bold than RL/JPress/BB fabric choice wise. Phineas Cole was also a lot more aggressive cut (not overly trim) and looked dandy English (color pairing wise).

think only Stuart and Baxter model got natural shoulder initially then eventually they chase the Italian way (soft everything) but like 5 years too late…

Agree that now except some fabric here and there it’s tailoring just really doesn’t stand out as before…

Credit to RL by staying ahead of trends by basically standing still (i.e. he’s future proofed his clothing by staying more or less consistent).

Also, check out this stunning fabric from a 25th Anniversary suit:

Its a cream and black glen check with a blue window pane.

Yes. Ralph Lauren is staying with classical fabrics and still
offering his take on traditional Anglo ( as in Purple Label) -American
style. This was more or less his point of departure circa 1970
when he launched his clothing line(s) after establishing himself
as ur purveyor of wide ties in the trad world.

I don't know who to ask at PS.
That design is quite specific in my opinion. There's a nuance there that's hard to match.

By the way how did you conclude it’s not Martegani, their website won’t list everything (and if the stuff is retailer specific it definitely won’t show up).

I don't think those are Marteganis. Martegani tends to use different style medallions than the shoe in the picture. I know that is not definitive, but I've bough Martegani-made shoes from Paul Stuart before and they had the same exact style medallion as Martegani-branded shoes I've bought from Francos. There are some Italian factories that only make shoes for store brands like Paul Stuart and Paul Frederick, so perhaps the PS shoes are from one of those. Marteganis are very nice shoes, by the way. Not sure if Ron Rider still frequents this forum, but he used to be their North American distributor.
