I appreciate your thoughts, you always seem trying to be fair, it's a great attitude.

I dissent on the subject, but I see and respect your point.

Aesthetics is no science and consequently there's no "right" and "wrong": as always, I offer my honest opinion, not the truth, no one has to agree.
As I said time is the judge. What we find attractive or normal today was breaking a "rule" sometime in history.

I agree there isn't a right and wrong which is why I think it better not to pass hard judgments based on aesthetic "rules" since it is clear these are not rules but rather norms that change over time.

I'll leave it at that. This post is already too pedantic.

Let's get back to Bespoke Projects. ;)

You have a lot of better options, if you have/want to wear jeans.

I'll just leave this here.

The rules have a reason to be and have established along the time, anybody is free to break them, but whether he makes a favour to himself is highly questionable.

I'm wearing jeans and a polo shirt with a sport coat (Moonbeam) at this very moment. I look great. Men are too intimidated to make eye contact with me. Old women faint as I walk past. I use lace panties thrown at me by a passing model for a pocket square.

Well, I'll be. The debate is well and truly settled!

Yeah I suppose if we go back a few generations there are bound to be rules that are no longer relevant today, so these things change with time.

Personally, unless I'm subject to some sort of dress code, I don't consider wearing jeans with casual sport coats to be a faux pas. Some hate it, some like it, just like with everything else, that's perfectly fine.

Good thoughts. I disagree with just two points: (1) Bespoke jackets can look great w/ jeans -- all the ones I'm wearing are bespoke except one mtm from Formosa. Bespoke can be as soft and rumply as a washed rtw jacket, esp if from Naples, Sicily, or made in their style.
(2) I don't think bespoke jackets always look better w/ tailored pants, and I think your example w/ jeans is the better of the two. The pants look too thin and close in color to the jacket fabric imo. Is the jacket part of a suit? It'd be ideal as a suit, but good, imo, w/ brown or green cords or cavalry twills. Gray odd jackets are tough to wear. I have a boiled flannel one that I've given up wearing with tailored pants and just wear with jeans casually:

I'll post some pics later of the same jackets I posted above with tailored pants to see if people prefer them with the pants or jeans.

Not just tweed imo. Heavy linen (I have some made from upholstery fabric, over 20 oz), w/s/l, and fresco/mock Leno work great too. The jacket with the least texture above is Drapers 6 ply, and it's about as smooth as I'd go.
Hi @emptym

I would have to disagree as well (very respectfully of course) that bespoke jackets don’t pair well with jeans.

Mainly because I think every single member here who posted photos of their outfits looks great! Well done fellas and thanks for sharing.

I’m wearing a couple of my Dege and Skinner commissions in my photo and, just like everyone else’s bespoke sport coats here, find them versatile and nice looking with pretty much anything. Including jeans. I actually receive nice compliments.

Maybe the only exception would be wearing them with my sweatpants and Adidas running shoes. That didn’t that turn out so well. My wife told me to, “Go change right now. You’re not leaving the house like that.”

JUST KIDDING! No way did I do that!

@tim_horton can we swing back around to your tailoring preferences and how you go about ordering seasonal outfits? More specifically summer wear and dealing with the heat?

Do you primarily use Stephen H. for fall and winter garments or do you have him make up summer garments as well? I know you had less then ideal outcomes with your Neapolitan maker but there is something to be said about how they make their jackets and its suitability for hot and humid climates.

Also, how do you decide on the garments you want made by Hitchcock vs your Florentine tailor?

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
