In memory of the Star Wars "extended universe":

Spoiler: it's just two guys reading a Wikipedia page about Darth Vader's suit in the "EU" and making fun of it. But it's really, really ridiculous.

the disney purchase a few years ago de-cannonized pretty much everything except the OT, the prequels, and the various cartoons and comics that came out after the prequels.

Yes, but:
More than anything, it’s exciting to see a film that gets to play in the sandbox of Lucas’s original trilogy, rather than echoing and remodeling it as The Force Awakens, which was set 30 years beyond it, had to.

I assume that, better than anything else, the healthy-at-any-size spaceship mechanic has a positive body image delivers her lines with real moxie.

How to get good reviews if you're going to make mediocre, derivative movies?

Felicity Jones is a decent enough actor. It's got potential, and whilst it ties into the original film we don't know how derivative the plot is going to be (although I confess I can't remember the last time I saw a space opera that wasn't a little derivative - it seems to come with the genre).

So, everything I've read.

The new books are a mixed bag. One of them, I can't remember which at the moment, is really poor IMO. The best books were the Thrawn trilogy, and I was hoping the movies were going to be a movie adaptation on that. How cool would it have been if the bad guys didn't obsess over super weapons and instead had a cohesive strategy that focused on more than brute force?

And the good guys would be comprised of smugglers and Han, and smugglers. And they would of cours all know eachother, 'cause it's a small galaxy.

So many dudes crying on twitter because a girl is at the front of another Star Wars movie... smh. Like we haven´t had enough pasty white dudes leading films to last for all eternity.

As opposed to the sacred Original Trilogy, in which you can probably count the number of speaking women on one hand...

Give me a break.

Leia had plenty of lines and she was a legit strong female character that was not crafted by feminists. She was able to be a strong female without kicking ass with her king fu moves, talking sassy to white men, or saying shoehorned "you go girl!" one-liners like "I rebel."

Heavens forbid we get that instead of tons more testosterone filled male heros kicking everyone's ass they come across with shoehorned one liners like "Hasta la vista, baby" or "Yippee ki-yay, motherfucker!" Because female hero = feminist agendas and SJW.

Plus with a female lead, they don't have to hire extra screen candy for you to jerk off to.

Hollywood budgets are tight these days!

There is a difference in having a strong female character and having a strong female character as part of a SJW agenda. This is clearly the later. This is not even subjective. It's been confirmed by Disney.

http://www.breitbart.com/big-govern...strong-empowered-female-star-wars-purposeful/

“As you may have noticed, hopefully you did, the lead character in the Force Awakens was the lightsaber wielding Rae, a very strong empowered female heroine who really took the movie and the world by storm,” she said. “Let me just say, you know, that was purposeful, that was purposeful on Disney’s part and purposeful from the filmmaker’s perspective to make that lead character a strong empowered female.”

Filippatos also highlighted the upcoming Star Wars film “Rogue One” pointing out that Disney also put “very strong female as the lead.”
