I don't know what either of those do offhand, but I want them.

Sabrosa, how does the Saturn V compare a Keely Katana?

I haven't really played with a Katana much, but what drew me to the Saturn V was a clean boost that basically just gives you "more" of the tone from your amp and guitar + a little extra sparkle / harmonics that thickens things up a bit.

Only had a few hours with it so far, but it sounds great clean at the lower gain settings. Exactly what I was looking for. Of course you can also crank it to push your amp into overdrive and that sounds awesome too.

This is probably the best of the YouTube demos for showing its various uses:

@Sabrosa, on your Saturn V, how does the "Boost" knob work? On mine I have to have it at 12'oclock to maintain volume (with the "Drive" knob down at 1). If I drop Boost down towards "0" I actually lose overall volume.

I'd assumed that boost meant "extra decibels" and that having it down towards zero would mean no volume increase, as opposed to no volume. Do I have something I need to address with the retailer, or is that how yours works too?

Other than that, loving it. Such sparkly goodness.

Mine's the same way -- that threw me off at first too.

When I have my amp set at low-volume, somewhere around 5-7 on the Boost knob keeps the volume comparable with the pedal engaged. Haven't verified this with anyone, but if I had to guess, I'd say it's so you can use the thickening or add extra gain and offset the volume to keep levels the same.

@Sabrosa, I had submitted this question via email to Spaceman themselves the same time I asked here on the board. Zak sent me this response, for the record:

Thanks for writing.

What you describe is in fact how the pedal is meant to function. The reason that the "Boost" knob has the ability to both cut and boost signal, is because when turning up the "Drive" knob, it adds volume/boost, in which case you will have to lower the Boost knob in order to maintain the same volume level, with the added harmonic distortion. Much like a "master volume" type of set up, with Drive being the "pre" and Boost being the "post".

You will notice that the Boost control does in fact add an added sparkle on the high end and a slight amount of harmonic distortion on it's own - however, this is subtle and very smooth, so it won't stand out so much - but you will surely notice a difference when bypassing it. The description is there to say that while the Boost control is relatively "clean", it's not 100% clean and not 100% transparent. We get heavy into the details here, and I do best to describe things in a detailed way. Depending on your pickups, the Boost side may in fact sound very clean and transparent, but there is a subtle EQ curve happening, as well as pleasant even-order harmonics, however slight.

So it sounds like your pedal is in good order! I hope the explanation helps explain things a bit.

Thanks so much for your Spaceman purchase!

Best wishes,

Zak

Bumping this. No one ever commented on the amp itself. The builder is apparently held in high repute.

Tab help, ISL, the intro.

On the G string: 4 bend to 6. 4 bend to 6 and back down to 4. Hit 1? The D string 2, bend to 4, etc. It's the note between back down to 4 on the G and before the first 2 on the D. I think it's 1 on the G.

Please to halp.

Never got on with it completely for some reason. Danelectro reissue (can't remember which model - it's the one where the body kind of looks like a blob) - I actually play it better than either of the above Guild D-50 acoustic (back when they were still made in Tacoma,

Thoughts/experiences on pedal boards? Have reached a saturation point where it looks too messy to just have pedals lying on the ground. Considering building my own, but have seen a few pre-made things.

I have to say I really love how the Vertex and LA Sound Design boards look. Wish I could justify the price. Building your own is a very good option.
