As a young married I took on some extra work in the summer of '85 and saved and ordered me a lefty HD-28. It sounds better now that the day I took it home (and it sounded darn good then). The guitar is likely annoyed it is played by such a poor player. :) Certainly, it has ruined me on any other acoustic. On the extremely rare occasions I run into a guitar store with nicer leftys and try them out I've never encountered one any better than what I already have. That includes a sweet Taylor 810ce I had the privilege of playing.

Good luck on the quest. That's half the fun.

Does the "pics or it didn't happen" rule apply to this thread or what?

Not vintage in the least, but I accidentally won this pre-release Akai MPC Studio + software a couple weeks ago in a giveaway. I have never owned brand new gear before.

a fair point .

i think this would be from 1980 or 1981 , early serial # ... bruce weber among others was an early employee making these pancake army-navy style mandos . made in bozeman , the company would later become gibson's mandolin factory .

i'd never tried one of these before , super duper playable , good volume and the tone is legit .

case looks to be original and had the OG warranty and a thank you note inside .

super clean super fun imma play this a lot .

As of two weeks ago there was a new slotted head 000-16 from the Custom Shop about six blocks from me. If you want I could swing by the store and see if they still have it. Not a 15 but I thought I’d pass that along.

A beautiful top!

I agree!

Left handed Custom Shop anythings are hard to come by. Ordering anything means waiting (as of about a month ago) about 16 months and paying full MSRP.

I found not one but two NOS lefty 60th Anniversary R9’s on line at Dave’s in Lacrosse, WI. I called up there and asked the guy to inspect the necks plus cosmetics (since they don’t have a guy there who could play them). He gave a very slight edge to this one, which was good because it has a bit more red. It is a cliche to say “my cell phone pics don’t do it justice” but it’s true. And it plays like butter.

It will be a great stable mate to my MiUSA Casino I got last year. I think I’m done now.😎
