It just explains that someone who works on the show is slightly less stupid than the people who make the final decisions.

That episode was great. All of it. Not just because of the return of Dany's ****, but....mainly because of the return of Dany's ****

Another thing that could just be too much (too little?) attention to detail.

Cersei ignores the wine and covers her belly to let Tyrion know she is pregnant without actually saying it.
A few minutes earlier, when she was charged by the wight, she did not have the instinctual reaction a pregnant woman might have to cover/protect her womb. I.e., when she is not fully composed and being manipulative, and is instead acting out of actual terror, she does not give off the signs of a pregnant woman.

Fake baby?

So you think in the Game of Thrones world they don't drink alcohol when pregnant? Naga plz.

GOT is a pretty good example of how books really surpass movies/shows. It's such a dense, character driven story that event in show format much of the nuance and detail is lost.

Having said that, reading the books kind of sets you up for disappointment. All I can do now is complain about the show.

the first season is really very good, after that it becomes torture Appreciation and softcore and then i stopped watching. i doubt I'm missing much and i'm just here to get a broad plot outline haha.

the books are flat-out incredible. Martin tailors his narrative style, pov, etc to each character/chapter. the Theon/Reek arc alone is like a master class of character development in storytelling. i'm still not sure whether i will read any new stuff since I'm butthurt over the show outpacing the books haha but the quality of writing is superb.

well evidently show took a hit in terms of quality when they run out of book material

Yeah these shlwrunners haven't draped themselves in glory when they diverge from the source materials, all indications are they really need those training wheels

I think that all they have shown is that they are overall pretty good showrunners...but not very good original writers (or very good at picking writers...)

I mean yes...technically both of them are writers. Both are published novelists, and Benioff has a number of writing credits, but I believe most of those were screen adaptations of existing stories (like the early seasons were).

Given the early seasons, If I were the author/rightsholder of some epic series, I would totally be willing to give them permission to adapt it to screen. I just wouldn't let them write the ending.

I have been rewatching Season 7 and I find it not as bad as I remembered going through it as broadcast. When I was watching it the first time, the huge plot holes, nonsensical behavior, crazy time and space skips, etc., were horribly distracting. On a second viewing, I was able to enjoy most of the other scenes. A lot of the Westeros Walk and Talk, Danny/Varys, Davos/anyone half of the Sansa/Arya scenes, etc. were nicely written. And the battle set pieces were excellent (except for the wall coming down). So as much as I hated it the first time through, I now rate season 7 as "Average"
