Do you have insight, because vale brothers filed for administration a couple months back. I've been googling and trying to figure out how true this is
Vale Brothers were apparently bought out of administration in Oct. 2023.

But the according to companies house the business has been recently wound down.

It's not really clear and in particular whether the commando sole is still being manufactured?

Over the last ten years my foot has gotten wider which hasn't helped my fit in the 4497 last. Sadly fitting 6 in a 8.5UK is the best fit for me these days, which leaves me limited options. The factory had a wide fit in a 1001 burnished Malton on sale that I just missed before they sold out. I ended up getting this standard Malton on UK eBay. A great winter boot. Merry Christmas everyone.

I fear my feet are going the same way and destitution awaits if I’m to restock!! I’ll be adopting the old Japanese binding trick..

Question for country shoes owners: I have been enjoying for months now my first pairs of Bourton and Stow but I am suspecting they may be tearing my socks. It could just be a coincidence, but I have a suspicion that my dress socks in 100% cotton, which is what I wear most of the time, may be getting snagged by the boots somehow. Both pairs are by now comfortable and the tears are not in stress points like heels but rather in the base of little toe and big toe as shown here:

Hi there, from my limited experience the big and little toe bases can be stress points if the shoes are too big and I tend to use the bases to push the foot forward and keep the foot from sliding in the shoe.

Thank you for this perspective! I’m now not sure but I don’t think I’d say my shoes are big there is some wiggle room, but I didn’t notice it would be too significant. I will pay attention now and see how slightly thicker socks behave. Have been meaning to get some Burlingtons anyway.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
