Great boots those Msaint I've been wearing mine a lot recently. Where did you get them from? I got mine from Kafka.
That's a great transformation MSAINT. How did you go about it?
ive got to say that is a brilliant transformation, they look excellentVery easy I used Saphir Renomat to clean the boot, Saphir creme universelle to nourish it (the leather was very dry and stiff, they're the heaviest leather boots I own) then applied two coats of Saphir dark brown cream, didn't even have to dye them as I liked the rugged aspect of the buffalo leather.
Both leather and danite soles have their uses. If you will wear the boots indoors a lot you should definitely choose leather. For walking around in the city, especially in bad weather conditions, a danite sole might be better. Having »irons and patin« can be a compromise. I believe it’s called the »French sole treatment«. However the iron bit will scratch any wooden floor. I remember @MSAINT wrote about rubber pieces and metal toe plates some time ago in this thread.
I never got wet feet in my Stow boots with leather soles. They are called country boots and are meant to be worn off road.
About longevity: I have a pair of boots with leather soles that has its third pair of soles. An other pair which I wear as often has dainite soles and I had it resoled once. Both are about eight years old and in both, I walk a lot in London in good and bad weather conditions.
Yes, Leather soles are slippery when you wear them in town, especially on a wet pavement. Running in boots with new full leather soles is something I would not do.
You should also consider, that leather soles are much lighter compared to rubber soles.
I'll put iron toe for sure and maybe ruber, note sure yet.
Froswicks in the rain.
