Got them from a RE.Tricker auction at a foul price as they where really ugly on the add pictures before I took care of them... Some times you just need to see the potential in an uggo like that

Hey guys who are or can get to NYC on Nov 5. Richard @Shoehealer will be there. Not sure what he is bringing or if he is offering anything special, but be sure to come meet him, look at some great footwear (and more, of course), and eat our food and drink our drink.

Go here to read about the show and make sure to RSVP, since we were oversubscribed last year, and if we are at capacity,. we'll let people who have RSVP'd in first, regardless of wait time.

That's a great transformation MSAINT. How did you go about it?

I have a pair of Expresso Stow purchased at retrickers recently and the leather seems to be not as supple as as a pair of "firsts" in coffee burnished. I am now hesitant to buy from them as a consequence

Very easy I used Saphir Renomat to clean the boot, Saphir creme universelle to nourish it (the leather was very dry and stiff, they're the heaviest leather boots I own) then applied two coats of Saphir dark brown cream, didn't even have to dye them as I liked the rugged aspect of the buffalo leather.

Both leather and danite soles have their uses. If you will wear the boots indoors a lot you should definitely choose leather. For walking around in the city, especially in bad weather conditions, a danite sole might be better. Having »irons and patin« can be a compromise. I believe it’s called the »French sole treatment«. However the iron bit will scratch any wooden floor. I remember @MSAINT wrote about rubber pieces and metal toe plates some time ago in this thread.

I never got wet feet in my Stow boots with leather soles. They are called country boots and are meant to be worn off road.

About longevity: I have a pair of boots with leather soles that has its third pair of soles. An other pair which I wear as often has dainite soles and I had it resoled once. Both are about eight years old and in both, I walk a lot in London in good and bad weather conditions.

Yes, Leather soles are slippery when you wear them in town, especially on a wet pavement. Running in boots with new full leather soles is something I would not do.

You should also consider, that leather soles are much lighter compared to rubber soles.

Thanks Bullitt and Allmodcons1965.
I finally go for leather sole on pediwear (with the shoes tree for free), first purchase on pediwear !
I'll put iron toe for sure and maybe ruber, note sure yet.

Over the years, I've been seeing the apparition of the sneaker style lacing on most of the on-line shops even when based in the UK!

Any opinions or thoughts on why you use or are used to adopt one style over another.

European (traditional UK / Fr) / civilized / straight :

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
