All,

I have not been back to NYC since 02, but as my GF is living there now (I wil be planning regular trips until my company can arrange a relocation from Sydney, AU - which will not be till this time next year).

As per thread title, what, where, why & should I do when I'm in NYC during the middle 2 weeks of March.

As a guide:
  1. Not in lacey or stuffy food establishments, more into clean & modern
  2. I currently live in what is considered a directional, international, affluent part of Sydney
  3. I will be staying in Columbus Circle
  4. I'd like to branch out Manhattan if possible
  5. Like to stay current
  6. The whole Hampton/Conneticut thang doesn't float my boat

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

1. Let's go eat at WD-50. I need someone to do the 10 course tasting with me.
2. Kudos to you.
3. Right by my house. Eat at Cafe Grey. You can walk straight down CPS to Bergdorf and Barneys also.
4. Carrol Gardens or Williamsburgh?
5. Read a newspaper
6. It's cold now.

Where is a good sports bar? As the Australian Super 14 (local Rugby Union competition) is also in weeks 3 & 4 I would like to watch my team play.

I realise that there are other parts of SF that I could post this Q, but I feel more connection on Men's Clothing..

Is there interest in doing a SF meet? The last time I went it was when Nantucket Red was in town.

There is probably something closer to Columbus Circle, but there is an Australian place in Brooklyn called Sheep Station where I think they show rugby:

There's no "h" in Williamsburg. Even if there was, it wouldn't be worth visiting.

As for leaving Manhattan...

Take a walk over the Brooklyn Bridge (after having checked out City Hall and Century 21), through and around Bklyn Hts and the Promenade, get a bite to eat on Smith or Court in Carroll Gardens/Cobble Hill, check out the antique and design shops on Atlantic Ave, take a walk down 5th and/or 7th Aves in Pk Slope, turn into Prospect Park, head over to the Bklyn Museum, then loop back around and have dinner in Ft. Greene...the greatest neighborhood in NYC. Cap it with a performance at the Bklyn Academy of Music.

or skip all this, hop on the B train to Bay Rige and get dinner at Tanoreen on 3rd Ave and 78th St. You'll be glad you did.

I'm intrigued. What part of Sydney is that?

I agree. Although not so much on Tanoreen. I like the place but it took forever to get there and it isn't so stand-out-ish from so many other middle eastern food places. But the Burg is about as overrated as it gets except for the Yoko D store. I'd rather hit up Fort Greene and Park Slope even.
