My friend Ryan's wife Heather was just diagnosed with Glioblastoma Multiforme. Two seperate tumors. I hear the median survival rate with treatment is something like 15 months. Incredibly sad news. I was pretty close friends with both of them, sort of drifted out of touch a bit, and got an email today out of the blue. She's going through chemo and the works, and her hair is falling out, blah blah blah.

Not sure what I expect any of you to do, but hey, maybe there's a brilliant brain surgeon trolling SF looking for a charity case.

I'm very sorry to hear this. I wish there was more we had to offer to people in this tragic circumstance.

She's 27 or 28 years old. Pretty. Has two kids, one of whom is going to need careful explaining to. Tragic.

Brain cancer is nasty. Had a couple of friends who lost their fathers that way. Once the diagnosis is made, events tend to go fast.

Be a friend and do what you can now and after.

Very sad to hear. She probably is being given Temozolomide. The Oncologist treating her might also add radiation therapy along with Temozolomide. If she relapses (i.e., the tumor reoccurs after being treated by temo + radiation), then she will likely be administered Avastin which is approved as second line therapy. There are also a large number of investigational drugs undergoing clinical trials for GBM. Her Oncologist might recommend her to enroll in one of these trials in case she relapses after treatment with Avastin.

Note, I am not an Oncologist. But work at a biotech which is focused on developing drugs specifically for cancer (and one of our compound is being developed for GBM).

I'm not sure. If you asked her, she'd probably tell you it was part of God's plan. I'm pretty sure I don't buy that God plans to snatch awesome mothers away from young children and their husbands. But of course, I'll be keeping that opinion to myself. I assume the belief in "that kind of God" is a comforting one to her, and I'm not going to interfere.
