I really like my first red chambray shirt (just like DrPat's above), but I've also always thought the chambray was a little too bright for me to 100% love it. So, I decided to do an experiment! I had a swatch of the same chambray that I left in a mug of tea overnight to see if it would tone down the red a little. The original red chambray:

The tea-soaked swatch:

And the two together:

I'm pretty happy with the results! It toned down the red a little and gave the white weft a nice unbleached look. Looks like I'll pick up a box of Lipton, brew a big pot of tea, and let it sit for a day or so sometime this weekend.

lol I like the red. Thats how people 'relic' pickguards and other white plastic guitar parts by soaking in tea.

I received my shirt yesterday. I got the blue green. It's a very interesting color. The shirt is very soft. I was worried about my measurements. The shirt came out well but my measurement for the length was way too long. The only issues are outside of the gussets there are no selvage accents and there is no inside pocket. I think the Navyman was supposed to have the inside pocket. Fit pics will come later this week.

It is easy enough to have a tailor shorten the shirt. At least is didn't turn out too short!

So, there are no selvage inside plackets?? Originally, I had planned for the Navyman to have curved cuffs, inside pocket, and maybe a couple other things, but I think you were the only person who ordered. It also seems like I was havign a hard time getting Nathan to understand what we wanted, so I switched the design to a standard USN chambray shirt. I made sure to post about it all on this thread, but perhaps I should have messaged you directly, considering you ordered so long ago. I apologize for that.

The fit looks great on you, ThisSunday. Great job on the measurements! If you tuck, then you don't need to worry about it being too long.

I think I am going to shorten my hickory stripe shirt in front tonight or tomorrow.

That's a great color, ThisSunday. Buttons pop really loud against that color but I think I like it.

ThisSunday's shirt reminds me that my shirt doesn't have a collar tab either. Not chambray, no tan stitching, no collar tab... inexplicable.

It will be fixed, though. Edit: Nathan said he will remake it and send it to you directly.

....got my shirt in late last week too. Been super busy but I plan to take at least a few shots of it when I get the weather to cooperate. I also inexplicably screwed up the length on mine and it's about 2-3 inches longer in the front than I should have asked. Stupid mistake as I was copying an existing shirt but on the length measurement I accidentally measured up to the top of the inside of the collar rather than to where the collar started(the EG shirt I was copying has all these fancy stitching there that threw me off). Easy fix for a stupid mistake- my torso look super long right now. I must have done these measurements the night I was smoking crack or something...but on a serious note, everything else fits great - my only concern with shortening it 2" is what the tailor will do to with the gussets - trim the bottom and the curve from the gussets will be flatter or will they reposition the gussets? I'll have to ask....damn stupid mistake. ;-)

Glad to hear it fits well otherwise! I have the same problem with mine. It wound up a little too long in front, mostly because I used measurements from my last chambray shirt, which I often tuck. I am going to try to take an inch or so off the front without touching the gussets, so we'll see. I'll post photos when I'm done. You should be able to find a tailor who can move the gussets if you need, but if they hem and haw about it, don't use them! I learned that the hard way.

Changed the buttons from white to navy. I wear my shirts tucked, and these pics are typically how I dress for work.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
