Another distracted GenZ female basically pulled across three lanes of traffic without looking, and almost took me out doing about 45 mph. Didn't even look. I noticed her before she made the move and had already figured her as a dumb f*ck, so when she did, I was ready to hit brakes. Third close call in about 2 months. I am thinking it may be time to ship my bikes to TN and be done with riding in Houston.

Dang. I'm glad it turned out okay and you didn't get hurt. I don't live in a city so I just make it a rule never to ride in cities. There are plenty of dumb drivers in the suburbs--I don't need twice as many cars on the road to make it any worse.

Houston is the most motorcycle-hostile city I've ever been to. I don't miss riding there.

I got an invite to ride with a new group of people on Saturday. They have been riding together for quite a while but I only know one of them (the guy who organizes it--he's a client).

I'm sort of hibbely jibbely about whether 1) I will be able to keep up and 2) any of them are dangerous yahoos. I guess we'll see on Saturday! It's always weird riding with new people. The ride looks like a fun route, though.

There are so many great rides in Texas, only problem is you need to survive that minimum of an hour on freeways in any direction just to get away from the awful freeway traffic. I'd like to plan something soon, maybe a west Texas trip, something like that.

My instructor made a strong case that if anyone in the class died while riding it would very likely be in the hands of a driver making a left turn. Anytime I come across a driver waiting to make a left turn in front of me I automatically assume they WILL cut me off and plan accordingly. It does take some joy away from riding in town but that's already miserable with all the stop signs and traffic lights.

Just happened a couple days ago at the intersection where one of my offices is.
Guy on bike going straight thru a green light, idiot turned left in front of him......dead.

This. Every single time. I actually did have this happen, years ago, but anticipating it would happen meant I did a low side, as opposed to hitting him broadside and doing the superman. Also now assume I will be rear-ended at every red light, and this has served me well, since I was almost taken out by a panel truck who was approaching me doing 45 or so, apparently not seeing me or the red light. He did at the last minute, and slammed on his brakes, so had I not moved into other lane, he wouldn't have hit me too hard (lol?) but now I check my mirrors religiously anytime I am at a red light. There really is no joy in riding in town, unless town is small with very few drivers.

I ordered a windscreen and luggage rack for my XR1200 as I prep for my end of summer trip to Yellowstone.

I'm starting to plan my route so any recs for roads, places to camp, restaurants to eat would be appreciated. Will definitely plan a day just to explore Zion, Bryce Canyon, and Highway 12.

Keep driving until you hit Glacier National Park would be my recommendation. You have to work around the reservation system which is a bummer, but it is a killer place and the Going to the Sun Road is pretty epic.

It is another ~6 hours from Yellowstone. If you do it, I'd take one of the more western routes through the mountains, like up hwy83, rather than one of the routes east of the continental divide that are mostly in the dry barren flat lands.

Nice. I've owned BMW, Triumph and multiple (as in close to 10) HDs, including several big twins, and I'll be first to say, Sporties don't get the love they deserve. Especially the pre-2021 883/1200 like the Iron and Forty-Eight. Am on the lookout now for a 5 year old or more Forty-Eight

I agree. I bought that iron 883 new in 2009, and considered trading it in when I bought my 2019 softail, but I couldn’t let it go. I rode it in to work today, in fact. I put the 14” bars on it late last year, and it has made the bike much more rideable for me. It’s a very fun bike to ride…
