Hi all,
Been lurking for some time and contributing here and there. Time to contribute in a bigger way.
My wedding is June 30, so I decided to give Mohans Tailors in NYC a shot. I have no problems talking through every detail and figured I would avoid most of the issues people had if I was very clear with what I wanted.
Here are the results. Only adjustments were tapering the jacket and letting the crotch a little looser.
I admit mine came out better on the first run that my dad's and brother's. We split the 6 suit package, 2 each for my wedding. My dad needed shortened pants and sleeves, tapered jacket, and slimmer sleeves. My brother needed slimmer sleeves and the chest and shoulders narrowed. In the end they all turned out nicely.
Tips:
- Be very clear on what you want. I wouldn't assume they know what exactly a "modern, slim suit" would entail, for example. If you want soft shoulders, say it. Flat fronts, tell them.
- They tend to assume younger people want more the style that is liked on here and older guys want their boxier, sack like house cut.
- Repeat what you expect and want to the sales guy AND the tailor as he measures you up.
- shoulders can run wide so let them know you want them very snug.
