Maybe at twice a year they can uphold the higher standard.

... your post has just caused a rift in the space-time continuum.

Yep. Very good especially if you can read Japanese.

I liked it, but this is true. Hard enough to sell guys on clothes that look modern/youthful, much less stuff that looks retro-centric. It was catering to a niche of a niche.

GQStyle isn't too bad, just pricey, much better than the flag ship GQ.

crap, guess i shouldn't have burned my midwest miles on a subscription.....

ever since the airlines have been cancelling miles (or threatening to do so), i've been burning my (un)frequent flyer miles on these subscriptions, since the miles might disappear.

maybe they'll just give me a 5 year subscription (at 2X a year) instead of the 10 or 12 annual issue subscription i think i was supposed to get.

the magazine blows, but whatever.

A lot of truth in that. From the outset I noticed that there was something schizoid about the magazine. On the one hand, they wished to reach out to men who liked to dress with classic elegance in timeless style. On the other hand, a lot of their core market were retro costumers. I think making the first issue a "hat" issue with the back pages filled with pictures of Fedora Lounge get togethers may have poisoned the wells as far as getting advertising from mainstream advertisers like Ralph Lauren, Hickey-Freeman, HSM, A-E, Alden, Brooks Brothers, Canali, Corneliani, etc., who might naturally advertise in a true "classic style" magazine but wouldn't be uninterested in as tiny a market as the costume boys. The fact that most of the advertising they did get was costume-oriented would undoubtedly force them to continue to cater to this market as well as reinforce the impression that it was primarily a costume magazine. The whole thing was a great pity. Had it succeeded it could have occupied a good niche. There was much that I liked about the magazine.

I'm not suprised if true. While I like the magazine, it really was not enough about fashion to be an interesting read. There is much they could have done like the old Louis, Boston magazine. It was more of a personality rag first then style a distant second.

Where do you get this? Is it monthly?

After a year of buying both Men's Ex and Leon I've cut back to just Leon. Despite the odd old perve/teen chick element to it it is more relaxed and casual than Men's Ex which to me has just too much suit and tie stuff over and over.
