Check the measurements, definitely shorter by at least a inch if not more than standard Tom Ford EU48 regular

For those with experience with Kent Wang dress shoes AND shoes of the same tier like Carmina, TLB Mallorca, and Carlos Santos.

Is the leather quality /grade better on the KWs or on the aforementioned?

I have KW shoes and I love them a lot (although they do come with their flaws and limitations)
I especially like the leather quality. Not as good as when I used to handle Edward greens and such of course but that was years ago.

How do they compare (leather quality) Thanks.
OH Snap! When I saw this I immediately checked the date 😂
OK B, I don't have experience with KW but I do have experience with every other brand you mentioned, so compared with EG, I'd put TLB a closer second than the others in terms of leather quality and the complete package.

Sho'nuff and NORE! Welcome back!

S, you may remember NORE as Big Bris. N/B, did you see that Alfred Sargent was sold to a French company, no longer makes the models named after us, became Paul Sargent, and is now gone? So sad.

I was trying to stay ncog, you know, ptsd.
But yeah, I'm currently in the process of trying to get my handgrades resoled. No one will do them like AS did :tear:

Edit: typing lookaround still works, I guess there's not one for tear. Old habits.

Hey everybody,

Have a PSA that some may appreciate.

Tom Ford MTO typically starts at around 3600 euros (vat excluded from this price) when ordering directly from Milan.

Costume Limite is running a promo where you can get an MTO suit in 'B' or 'C' range fabrics for 3299 euros. So you can for example get a suit made with a Shelton jacket paired with a Windsor trouser. You can specifiy notch or peak lapel, single or double vent, etc...

And with the strong USD, that means you're paying around $3,400 USD.

I got a call from my tailor that the vicuna fabric we ordered for this cool idea we've got has arrived. It's basically a mid-life crisis project that I think is going to be awesome and completely not forum approved. Still I am excited and can't wait to see the fabric in the flesh on Monday.

A few interesting comparisons:

In Pearl Binder's book The Peacock's Tail (1958), there are a couple of prices given for men's clothing at the time, including the average cost for a bespoke suit from Henry Poole on Savile Row, quoted as £49, 16s (p.33).

The average wages for a London "town clerk" or "journalist" in 1960? £21 10s. per week, minimum. (source: https://api.parliament.uk/historic-hansard/written-answers/1960/nov/29/national-average-wages)

A similar book published in 1960 (Thomas Girtin's Nothing But the Best: The Tradition of English Craftsmen from Edwardian to Elizabethan) gives the price of a pair of John Lobb, St. James shoes: just $60 US. Average family income at this time exceeded $5000 US. (https://www.census.gov/library/publications/1962/demo/p60-037.html)

Let's let that sink in. A Savile Row suit used to cost less than a London clerk would make in a month, bespoke shoes even less.

The adjusted purchasing power of £50 in 1960 to today's prices is equivalent to something less than £1500. Actual cost of Henry Poole? £6000, according to Simon Cundey.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
