Looking for good shoes at today's Obama speech

Barak Obama gave a very good foreign policy speech at the Woodrow Wilson Center in DC this morning. I got there quite early to secure my seat and, bored and hopped up on caffeine, I gave up on the book I was reading and started to check out the attendees. I saw one guy in really bad shoes and then decided to pass the time seeing if I could spot any decent shoes being worn by those males in attendance. I think there were a few hundred people present.

Jesus Christ in crotchless panties, it was fruitless. Over the course of 1.5 hours I did not see one pair of decent shoes on display. Everything was black square bicyle toe rubber soled montrosities (generally scuffed and dirty) except one pair of penny loafers.

Oh, the humanity!

Good speech though.

Since joining the forum I've found myself relieving boredom by noticing shoes or overall attire. I did this yesterday at the airport during a layover, and today while attending a function at the state capitol.

What shoes does Obama wear? He strikes me as a Santoni Goodyear type of fellow.

The only surprisingly impressive celebrity footwear I have heard of is Conan O'Brien wearing Alden.

edit: and Will Ferrell wearing R.M. Williams.

thats DC for you isnt it.... well, it's the whole country now. What's funny is that the "designers" are trying to convince men that square toe is actually fashionable, because it's cheaper for them to make square toed shoes.

I was too far from the podium to see his feet; I could barely see him. [Might be time for a new contact lens Rx]

That's odd; the clothes he wears on TV are god awful.

Good shoes are usually about the last piece of a wardrobe that most guys think about these days and in most cases they think a pair of Kenneth Coles are "really good quality."

"Ruinous" is I believe the word you're looking for.

I believe Bush has a few pairs of allen edmonds in his arsenal, based on the pictures on display in two the dallas AE retail stores

A few months ago Fred Thompson was lambasted for wearing Gucci loafers to a campaign event ... I think politicians can only wear nice American brands and get away with it
