It's astounding, time is fleeting
Madness takes its toll
But listen closely, not for very much longer
I've got to keep control

I remember doing the TIme Warp
Drinking those moments when
The blackness would hit me and the void would be calling
Let's do the time warp again...
Let's do the time warp again!

It's just a jump to the left
And then a step to the right
With your hands on your hips
You bring your knees in tight
But it's the pelvic thrust that really drives you insane,
Let's do the Time Warp again!

It's so dreamy, oh fantasy free me
So you can't see me, no not at all
In another dimension, with voyeuristic intention
Well-secluded, I see all
With a bit of a mind flip
You're there in the time slip
And nothing can ever be the same
You're spaced out on sensation, like you're under sedation
Let's do the Time Warp again!

Well I was walking down the street just a-having a think
When a snake of a guy gave me an evil wink
He shook me up, he took me by surprise
He had a pickup truck and the devil's eyes.
He stared at me and I felt a change
Time meant nothing, never would again
Let's do the Time Warp again!

I was aware of these costume geeks and period re-enactors long before I was aware of the Internet. I don't see it as a particularly Net-driven phenomenon.

Agreed, although the 'net makes connecting easier, and increases availability of materials. It's tough to find a decent blacksmith in NYC, for example, but 30 seconds on Google and voila!

I find the intersection of "period reenactors" and steampunk interesting, but to the degree that people genuinely think they are "creating their own reality" it can border on delusion.

I wonder if these period folks are without central heat, cooling, adequate pumbing and toilet facilites too.

Nope. And a different one is a friend of one of the members. Read the thread on it over there. As for the second part, I doubt it. You can take the good without (what they consider) the bad.

Especially true for that dude who "preferred" that "Victorian view" where there was "respect for one's fellow human beings." Assuming he wasn't being ironic, words fail to describe the naivete of that statement. Fortunately, he then says: ""I suppose others might call me an eccentric, but I just live the life I want to live and don't care about what others say or think about me." Respect for others, indeed!

I'll just leave it. It's better that way.
