I haven't done much pricing except in SUVs lately. 80k will get you into an MB GL550, Lexus LX, either of the top two Infinitis plus 20k leftover, supercharged Rover Sport...basically the top or near the top of the line for just about any lux SUV. I'd not fixate on the price I pulled at random however, it was more conceptual than concrete. I was just being snotty to the prior poster, as he seemed to take offense that people spending 4x as much on a purchase, might want differential in the quality of service. I don't know, but I think most people would expect a different experience buying a suit from Men's Warehouse vs. a real tailor. I guess he's okay with elitism in some venues, but not others? /shrug.

I just asked for a frame of reference, 80k US$ will get you in a BMW 325i with an executive package. Which is a very nice car, but not top of the line. A basic MBGL550 starts at 138.500 euro (195k US$).

Of course if you spend a lot of money on a car (or anything) you expect a certain amount of service. But the worst service I've ever encountered is with Lexus and Volvo. The best service point for me is my BMW dealer.

The amount of service you get depends on the dealer mainly, not on the brand. My fatcher switched MB dealers just because of the service aspect.

Wow, quite the difference!

Agree, service can vary within brand based on the dealership. It can even change at a dealership over time. My wife leased two Volvos in a row, but based on a change at the dealership that seemed to cause a drastic decrease in service, she went MB (ML 550) where she has so far gotten superb service.

What I can tell you though is, since earning the where with all to enter the lux world, the service experience and expectation is far different from when I was driving a Ford or Toyota.

It's pretty much al taxed, the price of a MB GL550 looks like this:
Price excl. tax: 78.335
V.A.T. : 14.884
BPM Tax: 45.246

Total cost: 138.465,-

My brother drove a toyota corolla and the Toyota dealership was simply terrific! Way better than Volvo. The Amsterdam Volvo branch is simply marsupialed. My car broke down and they put me on a 3-month waiting list! When I told them it was unacceptable they told me that next time I should make an appointment 3 months in advance.

That same week i traded in my volvo for a BMW and never looked back

I'm sure that's where we're headed in pricing in the US

My problem with Toyota was you don't get a loaner. You wait for about an hour to get on a service shuttle that will then take another hour to drive you somewhere that's 15 minutes away. The big perk for me is being able to show up at 7am, have a valet take my keys and pull up a (complimentary) comparable service loaner. Getting service does not interrupt my work day, and that's important to me.

Tricky question. When Toyoat released Lexus they based it on pre-existing Toyota model. So there was a lot of recognition that it is reliable established brand that went upscale. I doubt Hyundai name has enough reliability and refinement cache to go upscale even under differnt name.

I blame Ford. (I 'd never buy Jag for the same reason).

Thanks for pointing that out, jackass. I'm sorry I fall under your definition of "poor folk" who can't afford a new $80k car and whom you want no contact with at your service center. I'm sure at 24 years old you couldn't afford a $80k car either.

You're correct, I couldn't. But I didn't think those that could, and wanted an upgraded service experience, were elitists. (Granted, I was a socialist just a few years before the age of 24). See the difference? Also, I notice you did not argue with my statement, per se. Merely launched some lame ad homs. Just for shytes and giggles, why did you put "poor folk" in quotes? I never used the phrase in this conversation. Jackass.

I didn't feel the need to argue because I see your overall point, however the way you worded it struck me as elitest.

I know you never used the phrase "poor folk", that my mis-use of quotations. However, I felt you implied it in your original post.

I'm done here.

So it's like a woman thing? Not what I said, but how I said it?

So basically, you agreed with what I said, but didn't like how I said it, and then started making up my side of this conversation?

Would have been much easier if you had just asked me to clarify what I meant vs. attacking me...and then getting pissy when I took a poke back.

All that fake wood inside makes me lol.

Those headlights are LED! Besides hopefully it will be more soulful than the Lexus. I just rented a Mazda 5 (minivan-car whatever) for a couple of days, and that thing was far more exciteing when compared to driving the wife's GS.

I would drop 80k on a hyundai for the pure irony of it.

The suits @ Hyundai Corp. thought about bringing a handful of these cars to the States and having them placed @ designated showrooms to gauge the reaction of American buyers.
It's gonna be a tough sell regardless, considering this rig sells for nearly 100 large in Korea.
Before taxes and fees, mind you.

This just in:
Hyundai's head guy is personally overseeing the process of prepping the Equus for American market.
It should have house-engineered a la Lexus 8AT and target price of around $60K.
