What's crazier is I have plenty of friends who have 30-32" waists...and some of them have up to 26.5" thighs. All below 12% bodyfat year round. I just can't believe not ONE nice denim brand carries a jean that's made for an athletic frame.

We'll start a jeans company and come out with the first "thigh cut" jean

Maybe Im measuring wrong? I just go seam to seam: Layed flat they measure 11".

Looks like you aren't measuring the thigh correctly. You have a good inch or so to the left of the tip of the tape measure that you're not taking into account.

yeah I thought you're supposed to go seam to seam. But since the seam is not the middle this is wrong. So layed flat these measure 11.5"...I went from the intersection of crotch and leg seam to the outside of the leg, passed the outer seam. (the material to the left of the tape is part of the ass, and, when layed flat it ends up on the other (out) side. I think this is accurate.

A week ago, I did exactly what turbozed said, cold soak with the jeans on to prevent unwanted shrinkage. FWIW, the jeans were tagged 34x34, and my thighs are at 23.5" right now. Yeah it's a bit loose up top (actual waist is 32"), but nothing a belt can't fix. I can't tell you what difference an extra .5" will make, though. And again for what it's worth, preshrunk pairs seem to fit much tighter in the thigh than STF pairs in the same size - when I went to the store to try 501s on, preshrunk 34x34s were skintight.

the grey stf denim is darker than your run-of-the-mill grey denim from the store, but it's not super dark. theres a couple pics in this thread that are pretty accurate representations of the colour.

So will these stretch back out to original measurements before soak after a lot of wear? I got my 31x36 in the mail today and they fit me a bit large but not too much, if they shrink a good size or two and remain there they should do fine.

From my experience with 4 501 Stfs the waist stretches out to its presoak size or bigger than they were presoak.

Thanks, I should probably size down a bit more. I'm a 30 in APC New Standards for reference. thinking possibly a 29/34

might be a bit extreme, imo apc stretches more than levis. I would get a size 30.

the 29's are a lower rise than 30+, i think. They heve one less button on the fly. The 29 and lower had 4 buttons and the 30+ had 5.

yup 1 less button...Ive got a pair of 29s presoaked here's what they measure BiG style:

w=30
thigh=11.5
knee=8.5
hem=8
Front rise=11.25
back rise=14

and a pair of 30s hot soaked once, worn for 4 months and today I machine washed hot then machine dried hot for 1 hour and they measure:

w=31
thigh=11.5
knee=9
hem=8
front rise=11
back rise=15

the 29s presoak are slimmer than the 30s after most, if not all shrinkage is gone...This is a pretty big difference for 1 size. Granted, the 30s are made in Haiti and the 29s Mexico.

Im almost afraid to soak the 29s. They fit almost perfect now, but of course after much wear they'll stretch out. Im a true 30 waist and downsizing 1 fits me better. the 30s are a tad baggy looking.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
