In my limited experience, The Fedora Lounge leans a little too hard toward bitchy cosplayers. When they decide they dislike something, they dislike it intensely and forever.
You should read the thread on this dubious brand called Master Supply. One dude defends them and they roast him like the shill he probably is. Hilarious stuff.

Here's where I can irritate some other people.
On the rare occasion I suit up, I go with wingtips, which I know is not by the book but cap toes bore me a little bit.
Other than that, I wear almost everything except chukkas and penny loafers.
Chelsea boots, lace ups, split toe derbies.
I have many pairs of Archibald sneakers in different colors.
So close! I prefer cap toes; though I don't have any strong feelings against wingtips. Chelseas and lace ups, yes. Split toes or moc toes, no.

Oh, and wedge soles, especially those white Christy soles, need to be killed with fire.

Love and wear all of the above but limited sneaker wear - only Nike Kill Shots and Adidas Sambas and only with denim and some chinos.

Apologies if this is the wrong thread. For those who have owned a Margiela 5zip, how is the sizing? I’m a S-M and was thinking a 48 might work. Was looking more for a boxy fit that I could potentially layer under.

I can't say that anything past 2004 is boxy. If you're planning to layer, I don't think a 48 might work.

It’s true that there’s some very opinionated guys over there. The Five Star thread is a good example of that, where some feel the need of making the same point over and over.

I guess that this happens in any enthusiast forum. And they surely know their **** over there when it comes to leather jackets, even if they can’t go beyond flannels and jeans for the rest of their attire.

And I can see why they would think that you can get much better value buying second hand than buying from Five Star, but that might not really be an option for guys like ppk (tall and slim) or like me (I’m a weirdo and won’t buy anything second hand that I can’t throw in the washer).

Some guys over there also basically seem to think that anything designed after the 50s is total crap. A bunch of them also think Japanese jackets suck for the most part, mostly due to the pattern.

Yeah, they're designed for skinny Japanese guys, not Homer Simpson shaped Americans.

This is the Double Helix Dodecagon. Seems to be patterned for guys with a big gut, actually.

To be fair the Deviant looks much better in the same model.

I don’t think it’s the “japanese jackets are designed with skinny japanese guys in mind and in the West the people are fat” though. FL tends to favor old american designs and patterns from when obesity was not that much of an issue. Jackets with with broad shoulders and strong taper.

This is the kind of pattern fit that’s really disliked over there (this is a Lewis Leathers but they have their own japanese cut over there):

I like some of the Japanese patterns because of the narrow shoulders, and they seem to be more square cut, meaning chest and sweep are close to the same dimensions.

In the end I don’t think the Japanese labels should all be put in the same bucket. E.g. Flat Head jackets have very wide shoulders.
