i got my AD-01 in sheepskin and finally put it on. i sized up to a 40-- there's enough room to layer a sweatshirt under it. i think the sleeves might have been too short on the 38

I've got my eye on it as well. Keep wondering how heavy it is.

So I tried on a SLP L01 over the weekend, and goddamn that jacket was spectacular. However, the price tag on that thing is really intimidating. I could probably get there eventually, but it would take me a while. Is there any close substitute around 1K, or is my best bet just to save and wait for one to pop up on Grailed?

Have you considered James Grose? The Manilla jacket is pretty much Undercover at 1/2 price, and I wouldn't be surprise if the quality is way better. I've considered other fashiony dr's, but SLP was the only one that did anything for me.

That suede western jacket looks super the pinking deet is a great lowkey reference to a buckskin fringe

The issue lies not with MFA, but with this forum imo: it makes one lose track of how much most people are willing and/or capable of spending on clothes.

A $600 leather jacket (think AllSaints) is considered to be an expensive investment piece by most people; here it barely qualifies to be worth discussing.

so i'm the sick one, that's an interesting perspective.

I don't think there's anything wrong with AllSaints so long as you're choosy about the style. Some of the stuff is basically just FG/ TOJ

uhhh, i disagree chief. the last time i checked, their leather is heavily corrected, the hardware is nothing to write home about either and the detailing is mostly miss like the amount of leather paneling they use to have more yield per hide just distracts from the silhouette overall.

at $600, i'd say you could do a lot better. at the discounted price of $300ish, however, you could do a lot worse.

there used to be LAC that's basically an SLP rip off, but idk if they're still in business. perhaps you could try a custom leather jacket maker and have them crop the body length so it will have some of that hedi aesthetic?

thanks! i love it so far. i'm 6' and 155

it's lighter than the horsehide and kip leather. if you're worried about it being thin, i'd get it in one of those

All of those jackets give you the same look -- SLP, AllSaints, Sandro, etc etc etc. It's just this:

it's true in terms of looks. but that's it. you get the look and little else. it's akin to getting a jcrew ludlow suit for that #menswear aesthetic.

but will it ever look like this over time?

i highly doubt it

Pretty certain not to, but most people will have moved on for one reason or another well before a jacket looks like that.

An SLP won't age like that either. It's not the same kind of leather.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
