Belt + waistcoat = ugly. If it must be worn, make sure it covers the belt (and any shirt-front below the inverted 'V').

If the waistcoat was supposed to cover the belt line, wouldn't it still show the belt buckle below the inverted 'V' opening of the vest? Or is that acceptable (belt buckle only, no shirt front)?

There might be some kinda takeaway from western wear here though. They're clearly into both vests and massive belt buckles, so I'm inclined to think the whole jeans/vest/belt thing is better serviced by looking at westernwear.

That's actually what I was thinking too. When I wrote my previous comment I was thinking of it from a certain angle, the etiquette-based, traditionalist MC point of view. That's where we have to deal with the horror of a 3 piece suit with a belt. But if you're looking at it from the streetwear point of view, then I can see how that Clint Eastwood/ Spaghetti Western style might have some appeal. I would just hope that the waistcoat is made of a rougher material and doesn't reveal shirt between the belt and waistcoat.
