Do guys actually use hairspray? Sounds pretty horrendous to me.

Why do people come in halfway through threads?
As I thought I made clear earlier, I don't wear "fancy" clothes. They're very conservative.
Same with hairspray (you're kidding aren't you?) - I said before I don't even use a comb just run my fingers through it after shampooing it.

Its a free country. You can wear whatever sorts of costumes you like. However I think you know we aren't talking about costumes here. We are talking about clothes. If you want to wear feminine clothes, that's your business. I don't mean to pry into anyone's personal life.

Other men might want to wear clothes that look like they belong on a man.

I came in halfway because I don't read every thread here as soon as it pops up. As far as the fancy clothes and hairspray that's fine. I did see that the hairspray was not an issue for you but I did think to point that out as that can be an issue for others who may have been interested in your topic. Others did express an interest in your original post.

Based on the information you gave that's all I have to offer. If none of that applies to you then I would lean toward the comments made earlier in the thread that perhaps you are showing up your wife and that is triggering the comments from her. I thought you said others said the same thing though so who knows.

Oh as far as hair spray, yes I use it. If I don't use it the hair on the right side of my head sticks up in a cowlick. Using it is really not so horrible.

I have a number of things that I enjoy wearing that are well worn and show character. My canvas sneakers, hiking boots, some ancient polo shirts, two pairs of khakis including one with paint splashes.
Of course I have worn jeans and chambray shirts too.

When I was growing up in the land of preppies, it was cool to have the most beat-up, worn out Bass loafers possible. If the stitching was coming apart you got extra points. I think the winner had white tape holding the toe area and the sole together.

I have had weejuns held together by:

Duct tape

Brown packing tape

And once, for one evening, masking tape

I thought I'd just warn everyone that doing the last can actually lead to the terrible band-aid shoe affliction so often talked about here. People will notice the colour of your shoes before the construction.

Back to the hairspray thing - there is no dictum which applies to everybody. People have different types of hair, as one poster pointed out.

I use whatever will keep my hair neat but casual e.g. vaseline, hair spray, baby oil, VO5, gel etc. Whatever works on a particular day. I usually combine a couple of the above. Reason - my hair is very fine and dry. I have to give it a bit of weight or it's all over the place.

I was thinking about techniques for this, that will give repeat results, and i've come to the conclusion that to successfully not look "too perfect" one should fall down a flight of stairs at the beginning of each day to ruff up that days sartorial choices.

Other ideas that come to mind:

- Start a fight (preferably with a bum, they have nothing to lose)

- Have your wife, girlfriend, boyfriend, all three, the neighbor lady (hey maybe all four) stop and give you a morning blow job/quicky before you run off to work late pulling your pants up.

- Taunt the neighbors dog into attacking you.

- Run out into traffic
