When you bet on everything, you need cash around.

Matthew, racist stereotypes do not help set a positive tone for discussion on SF.

Would be interesting to see the ages of the people posting in this thread.

I occasionally carry up to a hundred billion dollars, but that's a novelty Zimbabwean banknote.

Aside from that, debit card for everything. Entering a PIN number is faster than waiting for a sub-numerate cashier to work out change.

I like to carry about $200 at any given time. A little cash always seems to come in handy.

50-100 at all times... that could last me easily a month, cause everything is used through my credit card which makes me money to use it.

who carries balances?

It depends...

At home: I probably average $17
Vacation: I start off with a couple grand and spend my way down

My grandmother usually has a couple thousand in her pocketbook.

Never a dollar in my wallet unless someone has given me money for something (canadian, use debit for everything small and credit for everything big); but have 100 CAD, 100 USD, 100GBP and 100EUR on hand in my briefcase.

The last on that list has only come in handy once, but it really did save me a major hassle so I'm happy for my quirkiness.

Hardly any, maybe around $5-10. I use credit cards 98% of the time, since they offer much greater protection and security, and some actually pay you to use them.
