As for me, I wanted to take advantage of all the cheap tailors near my first house in Vietnam, but didn't really know what to ask for, and language barrier was making that double-tough. Did some googling, Ask Andy and SF came up. Joined AA one day, SF the next (SF was down on the first day...that used to happen a lot).

The sites were much closer then, pretty much the same guys in both places, lots of cross posted discussions, and since both the sites were less stable...you could just watch all the guys pop up at one site, then pop up back at the other with a new thread saying 'Is AA down?'

We Made Him.

Scott used to post every shot here and at AA back then for comments and feedback in the early days of his blog in order to generate traffic, but all disappeared when he worked his way on to the Conde Nast/GQ payroll.

Suspect he still lurks.

And now I'm hooked. Damn it.

I bet my productivity would be through the roof if it weren't for SF...

Around 2000 and 2001 I used to post on other menswear and fashion fora (I can't veen remember their names now) and they recommended SF and AAAC. So joined both around 2003 ...as the others went under!

Googling. For a while I wondered why anyone would want to get banned from here.

I can't remember either how I found SF. Must have been through some sort of search. It was the spring of '04. I found AAAC and SF around the same time, lurked for awhile and then joined AAAC, followed by SF a couple of months later.

I always regret having missed the glory days of Kalra.

My manager at work showed it to me. He's a pretty astute dresser so I took it as a sign that this is a place that I should spend way too much of my free time.

BTW, is J the Jeremy Jackson that is mentioned in this article? I knew a Jeremy Jackson in the Seattle area when I was growing up there. I wonder if it's the same dude?

Maybe this didn't exist at the time, but the article didn't mention how Style Forum has become an ecosystem unto itself with the various sub-forums. I really enjoy spending time in most of them and can LITERALLY waste away the day on this one website.

There was no SW&D, Fine Living & DT forums back then. CE, Entertainment, and Social Life were at their infancy. I think MC & Body Consciousness were the two original founding forums.
