Agreed. My neighborhood was covered in slush, hence the boots and khakis. I suppose washable cords would have been a better choice. Alas, those are off to the tailor for mending.

Washable cords would be same formality level as khakis (chinos).

I would suggest tailored cords instead, you will appreciate the difference.

I have been on vacation (though, as a retiree, determining what is "vacation" is a vexing question), abroad, faffing about in Spain and the UK. Since returning to the US Sunday evening, I've been attempting to recover my wits and return to a normal sleep pattern, hence, today's posting will only be "lifestyle" photographs, from Seville (the Plaza de Espana), Madrid (lunch at Deessa, the restaurant of the Mandarin Oriental Ritz), and London (lunches at Rules and the National Liberal Club dining room, dinner at Northall at the Corinthia). Please enjoy, if you may . . .

I always say traveling is not "on vacation", it's a lot of work, mostly enjoyable

A quick selfie on my way for a TV interview. The jacket is made of Alashan Breeze by Piacenza - it’s definitely too lightweight for a cashmere blend. It wrinkles easily. Considering the price I would not go for this fabric again.

Keeping it simple, nice colour scheme.

I also prefer fabrics less prone to wrinkle, but your jacket looks good, as do some linen ones.

Thanks! I think I am biased towards less problematic fabrics as I mostly wear tweeds or heavy flannels during the winter. The thing with Alashan Breeze is that it seems suited neither for winter nor for the summer (it is very lightweight, but at the same time the wave is not open enough to let enough air through on a hot day). The hand and the structure is great, though, it’s like a very lightweight flannel fabric but with a certain lustre it attributes to the content of silk.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
