Hmmm I'm seeing apparently different Hickey suits on Gilt.

One is 11" rise, 9" leg opening for a size 40, the other is a 10" rise, 8.25" opening.

I thought they were slim all across the board... the first measurement doesn't seem slim at all. Are Gilt measurements to be trusted?

I wouldn't trust it much -- I grabbed two suits (a Navy and a Worsted Wool) that were listed as drop-6 and drop-7 respectively, with different rise measurements; they were both drop 7s with identical pants.

I got a navy microcheck Hickey suit of Rue La La, love it. Fits great and nice quality. I think I paid $339 so pretty good deal, better than Gilt. When they came up a month or two ago again I got another grey one for $399. Haven't tailored it yet but nice fabric.

Reviving this thread as a PSA to anyone interested in the "Hickey" brand, as I see it pop up quite a bit on the deal sites (Gilt, Rue La La, MyHabit, etc.). I know the Hickey brand used to have a decent reputation, as Hickey Freeman's youth oriented diffusion line, so I was excited when I came across a whole rack of the stuff at my local discount retailer. Based on the stuff I saw, I would doubt that Hickey Freeman has any real affiliation with Hickey and that HF has just licensed the old Hickey name to a third party. Pants were $16.99; sportcoats (though they were actually orphaned suit jackets) were $39.99, and I didn't even entertain the thought of buying. The jackets had heavily-padded shoulders, the fabric was garbage, the fit and styling was not good. Some of the trousers were 100% polyester. None of it made in the U.S. I'd steer clear if you see a "good deal" pop up on the internet. You'd be better off buying from JC Penney or Macys based on the stuff I saw.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
